Computer problems, where would I be without 'em? Yesterday nilknarf.net went down for quite a while, and I also started having more problems with my main machine. When I got home tonight, nilknarf.net was up but my main machine was even sicker. Sick enough for the traditional bullet in the head. Continuing in that vein, I bit the bullet and did what was necessary: reinstall WIN2K. And guess what? That didn't work, 'cause I tried to do it the easy, fast way, by letting it try to repair itself. It couldn't do it, not enough local anesthetic is my guess... it was wiggling too much and wouldn't hold still for the necessary excisions. So, I did the full install. Meaning, of course, that I have to re-install every stinking program. And yes, I did a back-up on my necessary files before-hand, thank you very much for doubting my intelligence. Just because I have failed to do that before... several times... doesn't mean that I forgot about it this time. Yeah, OK, this time was an exception. 23:49... And, even though I archived my outlook files, it won't let me un-archive them, dammit. Additionally, I can't get the network to network, so I'm not going anywhere anyway. I think that I'm probably too frazzled to be doing this now, so I think that I'll just go to bed and do it later. Speaking of going to bed... I just remembered that I'm on call tonight, and I really hope that I don't get called in the middle of the night, it's gonna be hard enough getting out of bed in the morning anyway. I had the strangest dream that I have ever had last night... I was a protestant preacher in some little southern town, and they figgered out that I was an atheist, but they didn't get mad at me, just sad. I was pretty surprised, and I was trying to make it up to them when the dream ended. Got some thunderstorms moving in, lots of lightning to the west. Checked the radar on another machine, doesn't look like much. 00:00:00... definitely time for some sleep!
And it's much too late for me to be futzing around with this crap.
