I got a good night's sleep... seems that I woke up with the sun but I didn't get up until about 09:00, just laid there and enjoyed drowsing back and forth between sleep and waking.
Mom fixed bacon and eggs for breakfast and biscuits... I won't say anything about the biscuits that I didn't eat that went back in the oven.... I called my aunt Ene in Ponca City, woke her up and spent a coupla minutes explaining who I was... then Mom and I went out to the store. I left Enid about 13:00 or so and I was at aunt Ene's about 14:00 and had a nice visit with her for a coupla hours, spent most of my time listening, of course. I really enjoy my aunt Ene, she tells the best stories. I think that Mom would too, but she probably thinks that I've heard all of her stories and is too polite to repeat them (I haven't, though). Aunt Ene has no such illusions, and probably wouldn't care if she was repeating herself anyway! The tree damage in that area, both in Enid and in Ponca City, is simply horrible. Aunt Ene was without power for four days and she was pretty lucky, I guess, some of her neighbors were out over a week. North of Ponca, though, it wasn't really too bad, and it got better the further north I went. I think that the swath of the worst of the storm stayed just east of the Kansas Turnpike until it got around Lawrence. There are still parts of KC that are without power, I think. That kinda reminds me of a coupla years ago when the southern part of Oklahoma got hit, and I drove through that area down south of Anadarko a week later, the trees were all down flat on the ground for miles and miles... pretty scary. Anyway, the trip back was pleasant, had the same music all the way. I've never had a CD player in a car before, and that's the only way to go. When I'm by myself, anyway. If Karen was going with me, of course, I'd have to listen to her music half of the time at least.... So, here I am back home in Topeka... Karen was glad to see me, but the cats weren't particularly enthusiastic. But then, they never have been. I miss Doggie. Of course, I'm glad that I don't have the responsibility of being a dog owner. And I'll never have another dog die on me, either. After I got home, I suppered on some excellent chili that Karen had made, and I was reminded that Mom had some chili that her cousin Reta had made that I was going to try out... O'well, next time. Karen and Andy were watching something on TV, The Fugitive, a remake of an old, old movie, but this one starred Harrison Ford, who I pretty much like. So anyway, after the excitement when he escaped, he went into a hospital to stitch himself up... and he used a local anesthetic! I was completely disgusted, this was not the Harrison Ford of Old! He would have, at the most, bit on a bullet, but most likely he would have barely grimaced as he sewed his wounds closed. Needless to say, my suspension of disbelief was gone at that point. I just cannot enjoy a movie after something like that happens. Which is why I enjoy very few movies. Actually, that why I watch very few movies... I know that I'll be very disappointed if I do watch them. Books are pretty much the same way with me. If the author goofs up, that's the end of that book, unless there are characters that I really like, then it's OK if the plot doesn't fly.... Well, now I have to get rested up and ready for another week at work, dammit... our new supervisor is going to be working with us for a coupla-three weeks, so it should be interesting around there for a while. Everyone's bringing treats tomorrow, I get to bring the chips.... O'yeah, the entries for Friday and Saturday are up, go read them too!
