Short night, long day. I went to bed early last night. I didn't sleep worth a damn, however, but Karen seemed to have slept pretty good. Her fever had broken when I left this morning, and she's feeling much better this evening, although she's pretty wrung out. I got a call about 07:15 this morning, two (out of three) co-workers had called in sick, so I went in early, got there about 08:00. I was kinda awake when the phone rang, just waiting for the alarm to go off, and I really wasn't ready to get out of bed yet, but I did anyway. And we had a pretty busy day, but we were pretty much done by 16:00, so I left. My back is still hurting a bunch, and I'm thinking that what I need to do is exercise, so after I finish writing this I'm going downstairs and get on the weight machine. Not very long later... I'm gonna wait for a while 'cause running that one-inch steel tape a hundred feet down the sewer is hard work, and I'm tuckered. I like to exercise when I'm rested. Well, OK, I'm not fooling any of you, I don't like to exercise at all. The other alternative is to stop eating... well, I've discussed this before. I'm getting so damned tired of being fat! I've never really been fat before, although I haven't been slender since a coupla years after I got out of the army. Anyway, I don't like it. I get out of breath just walking... my clothes don't fit, I have trouble tying my shoes... of course I do, I can't see 'em! Anyway, I've heard that men have better luck getting the weight off and keeping it off... I hope so, I've watched Karen and other women struggle for years with their weight, I just want to get it done and be done with it in three months or so. What I really want to do is feel better, and I'm pretty sure that dropping 70 pounds will do that for me, even if quitting smoking didn't. I'm starting to get my breath back finally... guess that I'll go try it. The exercises that I do are specifically to strengthen my back muscles but they're a lot like sit-ups... and I do them on the weight bench, and I alternate the exercises with bench presses of the light-weight variety. OK, I did the exercises and I stopped when I started getting SOB... that seems to happen before I get tired of doing whatever I'm doing. It's the fat, I know. Nevertheless, I must persist... I must persist... I must persist.... I got a pretty good lac on my hand when I was handling the tape, I really should get gloves when I do that. Anyway, I didn't really notice it until now... I'd washed my hands pretty good, but I turned on the light just now and saw blood on the keyboard... I thought it felt sticky! It'll be just my luck to have it get infected....
Well, it's a good thing that I went downstairs... the sewer was stopped up, and I definitely got my exercise, although not the way that I wanted to. I did get it cleared, though, and now I'm gonna wait for a while and go back down and really do some exercise.
