Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

So, OK, xmas is now officially over... in the Franklin household, anyways. That means that the presents are unwrapped and everyone is gone.

Well, they aren't quite gone yet, but the end is near, very near.

I do believe that a good time was had by all, as far as I can tell. I had to leave just as the festivities started, but they held off on the opening until I got back. They didn't wait on the eating, of course, and I wouldn't have expected them to...

We were pretty busy this morning, but we were pretty much done by noon, and the other techs left about 13:00. I clocked out at 14:00 and walked down the street a coupla blocks to a new computer store that opened up last month and looked around and got a power supply for the 450. I wasn't too impressed with the layout, but the tech there took the PS out of a system that he was building and I was impressed by that... most wouldn't have bothered, if they were out, they were out.

So I walked back to the hospital and went back to the department, and there were two orders waiting for me. One was an ICU patient that I had done on Saturday and the other one was a floor patient that I'd also done Saturday. I did the ICU patient with no problems, it was a follow-up exam for her, and she was doing better. The other patient I wound up cancelling after an hours worth of hassling... the patient has six doctors, and they all knew the most important bit of info on the patient... all but one. The info was the diagnosis, and the one doc was the one that ordered the CT, trying to get a diagnosis. So the patient had to drink two cups of nasty CT contrast for nothing. The doc that ordered the CT shoulda got to drink some, too... but there is no justice in this world, and no next world. Discouraging, ain't it?

Of course, there is often justice in this world, it's just that I won't live long enough to see it. Justice is meted to each of us... it's called death, and it won't take no for an answer... it gets us all.

If somebody got passed up by death, I'd then be out with my placards protesting... somewhere. To someone? Wait, I'm getting confused here... Luckily, it's not gonna happen, so I won't need to worry about such trivialities...

I've had some problems with the CT machine the last few days... as you may or may not know, the x-ray tube rotates in the gantry to make the data that the computers use to make the pictures... this is a pretty simplified way of putting it, and I hope that it will suffice for this discussion.

For the preview image, the x-ray tube is stationary; for instance, for a head CT, the x-ray tube is at the side of the gantry, so that a lateral image is obtained that we can plot out the desired "slices" on. Dangling, what the hell...

Anyway, twice the x-ray tube has stuck in a 45-degree position, giving me a really funny preview image. Originally, I blamed the patient, since usually the patient is the main variable is something messes up.

So anyway, I finally had to shut the CT machine clear down to cure it, an extra ten minutes for the patient to spend on the table... and that's after I figger out what was wrong. It was easier the second time, but I hope that it doesn't start happening on a regular basis.

Well, everyone's gone but Kim now... and I'm gonna have to hit the sack soon, I'm about wiped out. Merry xmas to all, and to all a good night!

Thanx for being here!
