Turkey-burgers are pretty boring too, in continuing with yesterday's theme... unless, of course...
You have - APRICOT JAM!!!! - to put on them! Sometimes, you see, we run out of grape jelly, and I just have to make do with whatever I can find. But it's all good, all good. I have seriously thought about opening up a gourmet hamburger stand... Doug's JellyBurgers!. I would have special buns made up that would be the color of the jelly on the burger... purple, of course, would be the most popular. After all, who can forget the flavor explosion of grape jelly on your hamburger? Many jelly aficionados are shamed into hiding their secret. Like you did, heh, "accidentally" getting that dollop of grape jam on your hamburger in the third grade. Sure, the other kids made gross jokes and laughed at you, and you never ate a jelly burger in public again, right? Because you think that your now grown-up friends will shun you. But... did you know that many of your friends eat *their* jellyburgers in the privacy of their own homes, out of site of the general public? Many of them hide the evidence even from their spouses! But you can't tell a jellyburger eater from one who eats their hamburgers with normal condiments just from looking at them. No, you have to get deep into their psyche, and man, you know that it's really yucky in there! And generally not even worthwhile most of the time. Occasionally, you may smell both jelly and hamburger on the breath of one of your co-workers and arch your eyebrow... and more than half of them will act guilty. You don't have to say anything to them, just let them know that you *know*, and that you're on their side with a wink and/or a nudge. You'll both feel a lot better. I wouldn't really expect a jellyburger stand to succeed, though. I believe that the shame of eating meat and jelly in the same bite is a part of the American Psyche and that this anachronism will not be overcome in my lifetime. One can dream, though. One must always be able to dream. Anyway, back to reality. It really, really was a Monday. We've got one person on vacation, and the other FT tech had knee surgery on Friday, and we had the normal full schedule plus many, many add-ons. We were running all day, and all of the rest that I got over the weekend is already all used up. And I have to go in at 08:00 the rest of the week... the boss wanted me to go in at 08:00 today, but she forgot to tell me, instead calling me at 08:00 and askeing me to come in early. And it's really beginning to seem like fall here. Nice... I love fall, I do.
