"How Does Magnetic Therapy Work?
This is part of an e-mail that I got tonight, wanting me to "try" a magnetic bracelet. Just for the helluvit, I thought that I'd dissect this paragraph.
Ions in the blood carry either a positive or negative charge. Well, this is a lie... an ion is an atom that carries an extra electron, making it always negative. As they pass through a magnetic field they are either attracted or repelled which causes them to accelerate. Or decelerate. The ions push against the vessel walls dilating, or opening them, allowing increased blood flow. Whoops! I thought that they were accelerating? But now they're pushing against the vessel walls? Heat is generated by this increase in motion and enhances circulation. Well, if the motion were all in the same direction, maybe.... nah. Actually, heat *might* be generated if the vessel were restricted and the blood flow increased... but the amount of heat would be minimal, and the damage to the tissues and the blood cells would be... uncomfortable. Kinda like a heart attack. In fact, *exactly* like a heart attack... Oxidation is a by-product of ion collisions which carries toxins away from the damaged area so that it may be filtered. I don't understand this at all. Ions colliding outside of a particle generator? Then carrying toxins away? Energized and oxygenated blood cells help heal the damaged tissue. Finally! A partially true statement! Oxygenated blood cells *do* actually help heal damaged tissue! I do doubt, however, that one can "energize" a blood cell... Anyway, one more example of flim-flam. There are plenty more examples around, and I'm not even gonna mention religion. All of them with just one aim... to get you to give them your money with their seemingly educated but absolutely meaningless prose... Hot again today, it was. Work was OK, but I didn't hardly sleep at all last night. Karen and I went for a walk around 19:00, it was still pretty awful but we walked a coupla miles anyway. We need to do that every day, rain or shine... My damned blood pressure is still up, no matter what I seem to do pill-wise, which is why I'm gonna start exercising. And no damned salt, either. I bought a three-pound bag of salted peanuts the other day, love them things. No more of that. It seems like all of my good luck healthwise is coming to an end. I just can't get by with shit anymore... probably because I've let myself get by with shit for way too long. O'well, it was nice while it lasted. Of course, I've gained about ten pounds since I stopped smoking, almost four weeks ago. That's gotta stop, too. It was only a few months ago I was bragging about breaking 200... now it's 220. I really don't wanna be a fat guy. I don't mind not looking like Charles Atlas, but I don't wanna be a fat guy. Doesn't fit into my self-image anywhere. It's bedtime. Tomorrow, some philosophical discussion... and I've got a dentist's appointment before work in the morning.
