Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

I did get a little more sleep last night, but I was still up early (I don't remember exactly *how* early, though...) and I actually had to find some way to waste time before I had to be at work.

I've never had any trouble finding ways to waste time, though. I'm really pretty good at it, it comes naturally.

So, I was at work a half-hour early, and just kinda hung around watching. There was a hiatus in the work, something that happens often, I understand. Many of the patients during the day are outpatients, and they don't seem to show up when they're supposed to. I sympathize with this, having missed two doctor's appointments recently. But it does screw up the schedule. Mr. X is a half-hour late, Ms. Y is right on time, and Mr. Z is an hour early. So there is a break of 30 minutes, then there are three people who want to get on the table at the same time.

And they say this is pretty normal.

What this means is that patience is a necessity. After years of doing ER work, where patience is a distinct liability, this is going to be difficult for me.

On the other hand... this is what I left nights for. Long periods, or even frequent short periods, of patience means that I won't have to work so hard. This is probably a good thing... but it will take some getting used to.

All in all, it was an enjoyable day. After all of the patients were done, and the last "real" CT tech left, the ER had three patients in a row that I needed to do, rounding off the day pretty well.

Another thing that I'm gonna have to work on is the ability to work with distractions. I found that several times today I had to pause and re-concentrate on what I was trying to do, because someone else in the room was talking, sometimes even talking to me. I've done a lot of CT exams, but most times it was just me and the patient, with no distractions whatsoever.

Anyway, I clocked out about fifteen minutes late and I got home at about 18:00. Karen had thought that I was supposed to get off at 17:00, for some reason or another... after she got done watching her show, we went out to eat at a new chinese buffet. Pretty good, but the steam tables were turned too low, and the food, while good, was not hot enough for me. We'll probably give them one more chance, since they're quite a bit closer than my favorite place.

Supposed to be thunderstorms tonight... I hope so, but I'm getting skeptical about our chances of rain around here... it just doesn't seem to happen lately. I think that me planting grass seed probably has something to do with it...

I got a really cute Father's Day card from JD today in the mail... in spanish. I can pick out most of the words, but I'm gonna have to find an online spanish-to-english dictionary... thanx, JD and Annette!!

Thanx for being here!
