Long day. Looooong day. Started off bad, too. I coughed all night, then when I did get to sleep Karen didn't wake me up to take her to work... she forgot that I needed the truck, and she felt sorry for me 'cause she knew that I didn't sleep worth a damn. In spite of her good intentions, I was awake by 08:00, probably about 15 minutes after she left. So I called her and she was going to bring the truck home at lunch, but about 15 minutes later she called back and said that she was coming home now... so I hurried up and got dressed and took her back to work and dropped off the rotors to get them machined. It only took them about two hours to get them done, and only charged about $20, which was pretty good. The last time that I had rotors done was about 20 years ago, and cost the same $20. So I brought them home and decided that is was time for something to eat, and I cooked up a delicious bunch of beans and weenies. I only ate one helping, though... see, I *can* get smarter sometimes! And I put the brakes back together, took about an hour and a half, I'm pretty slow. Took it for a test drive, and I noticed a noise coming from the right rear wheel. Took it apart again completely and re-assembled it. Drove it again. Same thing. So I took off the left rear wheel and disassembled *it* and by golly, it looked exactly the same as the right one. Re-did the right one again, just to make sure. Yep, exactly the same. And still the same noise. So, since I'm me, I decided to not worry about it unless the wheel fell off... which is very unlikely to happen. Most likely what is rubbing is the emergency brake pads, and if I'm right about that, it should go away in a while. The emergency pads are on a shoe on the inside of the rotor, and they're not adjustable, so I figger that it'll wear down before long. It only does it when I'm turning, which worried me at first, but the more that I thought about it, the more sense that made. So I drove it down to pick up Karen at 17:00 and it did all right, so I'm gonna assume that it will continue to do all right. It's only brakes, after all... Karen and I spent the evening cleaning up the "guest room" so that JD will have a place to sleep. It has been accumulating junk for the last coupla years, and we have a coupla big black garbage bags going to welfare and about four times that went into the trash. Sometimes it's nice to throw stuff away... but Karen tried to throw away my army combat boots! Can you imagine that? I don't know what got into her head... I quickly straightened her up, though. Those boots (which still fit and feel good) are the last remnant of my army days, aside from a few medals and ribbons and such... and yes, I still have my dog tags, too. Waiting for JD and Tyler to get here... they left late, about 11:00, and they had to pick up Chris in Dallas, so they'll probably get in about 02:00, I think. And I've got a big problem: Karen's brother Chuck and his wife Judy (who I adore!) are in Wichita this weekend, and I promised that I'd go down with Karen to see them. But... JD is only going to be here a week, and I'm gonna have to work the last three days of that... and I probably won't see him for another six months. So I'm kinda torn. On the other hand, I could drag JD down to Wichita with us... which is what I'm gonna try to do. Right now, though, I'm really sleepy, and it's only just past midnight. And my cable connection has been down (yes, *again*, dammit) for about an hour, so my only recourse is to play FreeCell until they get here or I fall asleep at the keyboard... If I do go to Wichita, there won't be an entry tomorrow, but I'll catch up on Sunday...
