Yeah, I'm home early. I left at 05:00 this morning... my replacement was working with me and I decided to take the opportunity and cut out early.
Not a very interesting night, other than the fact that I had the company of a beautiful and intelligent 23-year old girl who worships me... yeah, yeah, dream on, Doug. Well, OK, "worships" *is* a bit strong... We did have an interesting patient earlier... a 400+ pound lady injured in an MVA. Getting good films on any trauma patient is difficult, but one this size is a real challenge... and we did just fine, didn't have to repeat a single film. Doing the necessary CT scans was a bigger challenge, though... she was almost too big to fit through the gantry, and the tube overheated so I had to wait between exams. This was good in this case, 'cause she had some kidney damage that was equivocal on the initial run but showed up well on the next one ten minutes later. The normal delay is about three minutes, and that probably wouldn't have been enough time... the contrast is excreted by the kidneys, and normally goes down the ureters to the bladder, but her kidney was lacerated and the contrast (and urine, naturally) was going into her abdominal cavity. Not a really serious condition, nothing will be done surgically, but definitely a good thing to know as far as her subsequent medical management goes. Eight more nights. Yes. I'm getting excited. And that eight might really be five, 'cause I've asked for some extra days off while JD is here... don't know if they can find anyone to work, so I'm not really counting on it. So, what am I going to go with these extra two hours I have today? Why, sleep, I hope. Didn't get much of that yesterday, my head is a snot machine, I woke up probably five times unable to breathe yesterday. My first summer cold, close on the heels of my last spring cold. Damn my nose. And guess what? It's supposed to rain for the next four days! I've gotta work on those brakes on the Subaru on Wednesday regardless... having only one vehicle is rough. And I really need to go fishing, really really badly. Right now, though, it's time to sleep. I'm kinda on call for CT until about 06:30, Angela (my replacement) is not really confident with doing them, so I told her to call me if one came in that she felt like she couldn't handle and I could be back there in fifteen minutes. After I get done with the Subaru, I need to get the clutch in the Toyota truck... Karen has been hard on it, she must ride it or something, it's a lot worse now that it was a week ago. And I need to work on the brakes on it, too... JD bought the front pads for it about four years ago, but we never got them put on, and the the rear shoes are bad too, I'm sure. It's probably going to be hard to get to sleep this morning, my belly isn't doing real well. They had a "Memorial Day Picnic" in the cafeteria, and I had the baked chicken and two large helpings of the wonderful baked beans. Yeah, I should'a known better... but damn! They were good!
