Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

My sleep-seeking strategy was off yesterday... I didn't get to sleep until about 17:30, and I had to get up at 19:15.

So. Tard, before I even started working. Wah.

Work wasn't really too bad, but it was pretty steady. I missed the entrance of a gigantic thunderstorm, though. Entrance? That's not the word. "Beginning" ain't really right, either. Anyways, that part where the wind blows and the temperature drops and it's wonderfully exhilarating. I missed it while I was doing a CT of a 17-year-old for possible appendicitis.

Interesting one... female, obviously in a lot of pain (but what do I know? I'm easily fooled...) and bewildered by the things going on around her. Got her on the CT table and noticed that she didn't have an IV established, so the nurse had to stick her... more pain and wailing.

I injected the contrast and did the scan and she came out of the scanner happy as a lark! She told me that the "dye" had really helped her.

Well, it wasn't supposed to, and it's never helped anyone before with their pain, but what the hell... whatever works, I guess.

She was moaning by the time that I got her back to the ED, of course... I explained to her that it wasn't a painkiller, I should'a just kept my mouth shut, heh.

The ED people were pretty good about helping me move patients last night, I hope that they continue. I'm gonna milk this for all that it's worth. My back is really pretty sore this morning, but I'm sure that some of that is from too little sleep...

We're already under a tornado/thunderstorm watch today. I don't think that I'll be able to hear the sirens if they go off while I'm sleeping, so if one of you would come over and pound on my window if a tornado is actually on the way (please don't wake me up for a North Topeka tornado... make sure it's gonna hit here first!) I'd appreciate it.

I might just decide that sleep is more important than going to the basement anyway. But I do want to be able to make that decision...

Thanx for being here!
