Karen and I just got back from the awards ceremony, and it was nice. Fortunately, I didn't have to say anything, but I did have to stand up in front of the crowd while my VP said nice things about me...

Thirty years is a lot of time to spend in one place, and I certainly didn't plan it that way. I'm not really sure that what has kept me there was not simply inertia....

I suppose that, as an institution, it hasn't been a bad place to be. I have worked with some really great people, much more than the average. People who care about not only their patients, but the people that they work with. This number even includes some physicians...

Now I need to start thinking about going in to work. I got to sleep almost immediately this morning when I went to bed, and no bad dreams, either. I got up about 16:00, and found that Karen had gone shopping for me... bought me a new pair of pants and a shirt and a tie to wear tonight.

And, even better, she bought a coupla pairs of sandals. I love sandals, and usually wear them about ten or twenty years... the ones that I had were pretty well worn out.

She said that I could take one pair back, but I really liked them both and they both fit, so I'm gonna keep both of them! She did good. And the old pair's going in the trash.

Finally... a decent night. Not really good, but decent. I got there about 23:00 and ran for a while and then stuff settled down. Three more nights... or maybe two, I'm going to Clark's funeral Tuesday and I asked for the night off, or to at least come in late so I can get some sleep.

I really think that Clark would've wanted his funeral earlier in the day so that all of his friends would be able to sleep...10:30 AM is kinda marginal.

So... it's gonna be another beautiful day in Topeka, I think. I'll sleep through it, though, as usual. Excellent fishing day, it is. Dammit.

Well, I didn't get enough sleep yesterday, so I'm gonna start early today and see what happens.

Thanx for being here!
