Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

So... I worked again last night. Yep, she called in again, and they called me again, and I said yes again.

I did have a pretty good idea that that was what was going to happen, though, so I tried to get a full day's sleep; and I did get seven hours.

It was a pretty easy night, too. The ED waiting room was empty by midnight... something unusual recently. Pretty easy patients, except for the fat woman who almost went off of the guerney backwards... I caught her, at great expense to my back.

But it's over now... and I told them not to call me this weekend, unless they wanted to be disappointed. Karen and I are going to Wichita to see her mom and sister.

I also asked my counterpart if she wanted to work next Wednesday and Thursday to make up for the time that she'd lost... she doesn't have much vacation time left and, although I don't *need* the time off, I would take it just to help her out. And I just like days off.

Well, I like working, too, but I really think that I like days off just a little better. OK, a whole lot better.

Today... today I'm gonna get about six hours of sleep, starting pretty soon. Even though I didn't have to work really hard, I did have to work some, and I had to stay awake.

Yesterday, or the day before, or... well, sometime recently, I bought a PCMCIA network card for the POS laptop that I have. This morning, I decided to install it.

12.jpg Well, I haven't played with that laptop for six months of so, but it was working last time that I did... and it kinda works today. Well, not really. It boots up (WIN95) and it found the card, and it wants a driver. But when I access the FD, it dies. As in, the power goes off. And it's slow as molasses, I always forget about that until I sit there waiting for it to boot... it's a 486-25, with a very small HD, something like 225 MB.

So I gave up on that pretty quick. I have no patience for recalcitrant machines right now, and it's not that big of a deal anyhoo.

And speaking of patience... I haven't quit smoking yet. I know that I need a good nights sleep before I start, and that certainly hasn't happened yet. Probably tomorrow morning is the time.

I'm looking forward to seeing Ric and Deb and Jeff and Betty... it's been a while since I've been down to Wichita with Karen. Debbie told me on the phone a coupla weeks ago that Jeff had bought a laptop with his lawn-mowing money... Jeff is 12 or 13. Unfortunately, he's an AOL kid, I don't know what to do about that...

Anyways, I'm off to sleep for a while, then off to Wichita, so there may not be any updates until Sunday night or Monday.

Thanx for being here!
