Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I went to see the doc this morning at 09:00, and found out that my appointment was for yesterday.
Stupid.
When the receptionist told me that they were expecting me yesterday, I could feel my ears starting to burn. Stupid.
But that's OK. I do have a tendency to lose track of days, but usually it's not important. Besides, he had an opening at 09:30 tomorrow, which will work out just fine.
Anyways, I only got four hours of sleep yesterday; woke up at 14:00 and couldn't get back to sleep. That's two crummy days in a row... usually I alternate the bad days with good ones? So I'm due two good ones now.
Interesting night... the other hospital was once again on bypass. Seems that they don't have enough nurses to cover. So our waiting room was full until about 03:30, and the ambulances kept pouring in.
The really interesting guy came in about 03:00, when things were looking like they would quiet down. Originally, this guy had been thought to be a gunshot victim, and he'd accidentally been taken to the other hospital.
Once there, he'd refused treatment and ran from the facility. He hadn't been shot, but stabbed. And he was very drunk an had additional illicit drugs on board.
So the cops got involved and decided that he needed treatment, and brought him to us. And he decided that he didn't want to be there... but he had a possibly life-threatening wound, so we had no choice but to restrain him.
Anyway, I did a CT scan on him and it was pretty much negative... a mere flesh wound. The doc was concerned because he kept passing out, but that was most likely the booze and drugs... but you never know without a CT.
I don't know what happened to the guy finally.. the cops didn't want him, although he had felony warrants out from a neighboring county. He probably got sent home.
I got to work about 19:00 and there was a slight lull, but after I'd changed clothes it picked up again rather drastically... there were five of us until 21:00 and we could barely keep up.... then two left, and those of us that were left ran harder. The two that left at 21:00 offered to stay over, but they'd been running since 13:00 and they weren't pleasant people to be around... they needed to get outa there.
Anyway, I'm really glad that this night is over, and I'm looking forward to getting some good sleep today. One more night...
I got a bunch of material to study for the CT boards, I'm planning on taking the test in June, probably. I've got a grocery-sack full of stuff. I think that it'll be fun.
Before I left work, I talked with my erstwhile buddy Doug, the department director, and he said that they'd make a decision on the CT job tomorrow. I told him that I hadn't yet interviewed with personnel, and he said well, I guess that we'll decide on Friday, then. So I'll know pretty quickly, and that'll be nice.
He showed up again at the same bar where he'd been involved in the altercation, and he borrowed ten dollars for a cab ride home. Got the cab called, then drank up ten dollars worth of liquor. The cab came, he got in in and they took him home, then got irate when he wouldn't pay. He ran from the cab, and the cabbie called the cops... partly because the guy had bled all over the cab, in addition to stiffing him for the fare.
