JD and I actually got some work done today...
we took his truck in to the shop to get the wiper motor replaced about
08:00. We goofed off on the web until they called about 10:00 saying
that it was done... it didn't need a motor, just some connecting parts.
JD was happy about that, it was much cheaper than he'd planned on.
We'd done a search on the web, looking for a
solvent for superglue. He'd lost the rear-view mirror in his truck,
the one attached to the windshield, and when he fixed it he'd gotten
the mount on upside down; it couldn't be pried off without damaging
the windshield, of course.
Acetone was the answer... fingernail polish remover.
Anyway, after we'd picked up the truck and came
home and had ham and eggs and toast, we decided to do a tuneup on the
truck. He'd suddenly started getting bad gas mileage... we made another
trip to town to get parts. We got the parts in my vehicle so that the truck
engine could cool down... started looking at the engine when we got
home and I noticed that two of the spark plug wired were welded (holes
in them from cross-discharging) together... so JD went off to get wires
for it. The plugs were 3/4 inch, and the only spark plug socket that
came in JDs Craftsman tool set was a 5/8, so I dug around in my trunk
and found a 3/4 socket that came with the Subaru... it's turned with
a metal dowel inserted into holes in the sides... very cheap and clumsy
method, but it worked.
The truck ran quite a bit better after that,
but it's still got some problems. For one thing, it needs a new muffler...
and I'm not really sure that the timing on the ignition is correct,
either.
After we were done with that we came in to wash
our hands and I noticed that the sink was spewing water from the spigot
every which way... so I cleaned the gunk out of the diffusers, or whatever
they're called. Much better now.
A little later, I got a craving for fried chicken,
and JD went to Popeyes' and got us some... excellent stuff, fried chicken.
Or maybe it was just because I've been on a steady diet of ham since
I got down here?
Right now, we're watching the Florida-Miami game
and dog-sitting with a two-month-old cocker spaniel. Ann, one of JDs
friends, forgot the box that she keeps the dog in when she leaves her
apartment and she had to go out. It's a really cute puppy, and it reminds
me of why I don't really want another dog. Kinda like grandkids make
me realize that I won't have any more kids... fun to watch and play
with for a while, but in small doses.
I'm not really sure that I'm gonna last 'til
the end of the game... JD and I were up late last night discussing philosophy
and the world and the universe and stuff of that nature, and we got
up early today, and we;re gonna get up early tomorrow too... the truck
needs to get the transmission checked and something was recalled on
it that needs to get fixed. I haven't asked JD what time that appointment
is...
I've decided to stay an extra day down here,
so I'll be leaving Thursday morning and heading back up to Topeka...
a long days drive, not looking forward to it at all. I'd like to stop
in Enid, but I have to be back to work Friday night and there's stuff
I need to get done before I go back to work.
Today's picture is JD...
