When I went to bed last night, I was thinking that I would know who the next president was... I was fooled by Florida, along with many other people.
The bad news is that the republicans retained control over both houses of congress. A slimmer margin than before, perhaps, but still control. This is probably more significant than who gets to be president for the next four years.
However, I do think that if Bush winds up winning, he will be a one-term president....
At least, I hope so. Since Hillary won in NY, there's a good chance that she will run in '04. That would be something to polarize the country!
Also, if Bush wins, there will be all of the old questions about the electoral college. Right now, Gore has the popular vote... and will have even if Florida falls marginally to Bush.
What is really amazing is that the vote is so close. I have the feeling that this is due to people voting for the lesser of two evils... in other words, there is not that much difference between them, it came down to "Who do you like?" rather than "Who will do the best job?"
Interesting, watching Nader deny that he is the spoiler for Gore. But I do agree with him... if Gore had had a stronger message, it would be a moot point. Or if Bush had had a stronger message...
Half of the Nader voters said that they wouldn't have voted at all if Nader wasn't running... I would have voted for Gore myself, if Nader hadn't been running. Of course, in Kansas, it would have made no difference at all. I think that Bush got 65% or so...
Cold out today... when I woke up and went out for my first cigarette, if was snowing... well, not really snow, but those little white ice pellets... they didn't melt on the deck, but they did on the road.
I'm in the process of draining the hot tub... still got some major leaks to fix. And I wanted to get the first coat of paint on the wall, but I can't do it until I can get the temp in here above 70F... right now it's 47F. I was thinking that the guy would be back with the transformer early, guess that I was wrong.
Back to work tonight, dammit. No extra hours this week, I guess. I was kinda expecting them to call...
And speaking of work... I think that I need to go take a nap in my warm water bed... probably the warmest spot in the house right now.
