And still no heat. I called this morning, the girl that answered said that yes, someone would be out today. About noon I decided to lay down, so I took the phone with me to bed. Don't have a phone in the bedroom, of course. Anyway, I slept until 15:00 or so, and they called about fifteen minutes later.
So the guy got here at 16:35 and it took him a half-hour to figger out the problem: a bad transformer. Well, OK, he had one in the truck. He put it in, and it was bad too. I asked him if it was the primary or secondary side of the transformer that was bad, and he acted like he had no clue what I was talking about. After some stammering, he told me it was the secondary. I think that it was a guess, though.
By now, of course, it was too late to go to the supply house and get a transformer... so he'll be back in the morning. Well, it's only going to get down to 28 tonight, just like last night.
Heat is something that we take for granted until it isn't there.
I went to vote this morning at 08:30 and the place was pretty deserted. The turnout was very high, from what the boob tube is saying tonight. And, as usual, the folks that I voted for lost, as did the propositions that I voted for. The propositions that I voted against won.
I don't know why they need elections... just declare whatever or whomever I don't want winners and let it go at that. I'm more consistent than the polls, I think. And it would be a lot cheaper, too.
Like, "we" voted to extend the 1/4 cent sales tax. Well, shit, it's been there for four years, and they've given all of the money to their buddies to do consulting on developing downtown Topeka.
At this point, it looks like either Bush or Gore will win. Gush and Bore. I voted against both of them, I did.
A little later...
I think that I'll go to bed and turn on the TV in the morning. And it's really hard to type with gloves on....
Looks like Bush is gonna be the man right now. Very close, but somehow I'm really losing my interest in watching...
