Gloomy, boring day weather-wise. Nice rain, though, and I know that we need that. It confuses the trees and the grass and other growing things... however, it will get really cold soon and then they'll all know that it's wintertime in Kansas.
Which reminds me... our damned furnace doesn't work. We woke up Saturday AM and it was very chilly in here, about 60F. We haven't paid much attention to the furnace lately, after that one cold spell we've had the windows open most of the time. Really nice weather temperature-wise.
Anyway, I spent some time working on it yesterday, and I finally wired around a safety switch on the return air door, but that wasn't it. So I checked to see if there was live electricity coming to it, and there was. Today I checked the thermostat and replaced the batteries in it, thinking that might be it, but it wasn't...
So, tomorrow I'll do that very rare thing... call the furnace man and have someone else do the work. I really hate doing that. y'know. It's not just the money, it's the ego. Well, it's mostly the money...
I did get the primer on the wall over the bar today. Tomorrow a light sanding and real paint. I think that I'm going to paint the walls of the recesses red with a one-inch border around them on the wall.
Kim and the kids came over to watch the football game... KC lost impressively, looked like they didn't have a clue. I got done with watching them seriously pretty early and came in and played Free Cell... I'm up to 61%, with 2,222 games played.
The kids were driving us all nuts, but Steve came over and picked them up during half-time and it was much better then...
Earlier, the kids had wanted to go out in the hot tub, but I had just finished refilling it and it wasn't nearly hot enough... Kim told them no, and Karen told them no, so they came and asked me and I kinda blew up at them. They don't like hearing no, they're not used to it at all, I guess... anyway, neither of them told me goodby when they left.
And my low-grade headache is persisting... I'm getting damned tired of it. I don't really think it's the lack of caffeine, really, cause I've been doing this (drinking decaf mostly) for about two weeks. I just took my temp, and it's normal, so it probably wasn't the flu shot I had Tuesday morning either.
O'well, it'll go away bye and bye...
It's still raining, so we won't hot tub tonight either. Don't want to get wet... (joke)
One thing that detracts from hot tub pleasure... our neighbor has installed a security light on the peak of his house, and it shines on the hot tub, since it's placed so high. And the damned thing is on constantly, day and night. It was motion-activated, but it's evidently broken.
It seems like most people are frightened of the dark, and I really don't understand that. Lights every damned place. I think that there should be a law... one person, one light. Carry it with you always. Think of the energy that would save! The oil barons would probably hate me if they knew that I came up with this idea...
Security lights... they'd be OK if they worked right. However, I sit out on the front deck a lot at night, and it's interesting to watch the lights in the neighborhood light up, tracing the path of a cat or dog... or the ones that go on when a car drives by in the street...
At one time, some legislature in some western state was mandating that all outdoor light fixtures have the upper part blocked so that the light wouldn't pollute the air, so that people could see the stars... I wonder what ever happened to that idea?
Here in Topeka, the stars are rarely seen clearly... and we're a small city (even though we're #5 in crime in the US!)
Anyway, I'm perfectly at ease in the dark. Working in photographic/radiographic darkrooms, I prefer to not use a safelight. I would probably make a really good blind guy, but I don't want to have to prove it.
Ah... it's late. Off to bed. O'yeah... since I got the photos back of Renee, I'm gonna get the vacation entries done tomorrow...
