Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

Yesterday morning I called the hospital about 07:30 to see if there were any inpatients who needed CT exams. The secretary that I talked to told me there weren't, that she checked the CT printer. Well, Karen had to go in to work, and she left at 08:15 or so... she was no sooner out the door than I got a call from the secretary... seems like she'd not seen an order for a "early AM" CT abdomen study on an inpatient. O'yeah, there were a couple from the ER too...

So I started off behind, and I stayed behind most of the day. I came home about 15:00 and stayed for about 45 minutes before I got called in again.

At about 16:45 (I was supposed to get off call at 17:00) Lifestar called... we had a critical patient coming in. Well, I thought that I'd stay over and do this one too. Unfortunately, the same secretary, knowing that I was supposed to get off call at 17:00, called the other guy in. So we teamed up on the kid and got him done ... interesting case, both a subdural and an epidural hematoma. Anyway, I got out of there at 18:15.

I had emailed Tyler to invite him over again, and I called to see if he'd gotten the email, but he'd already left heading in this direction. Kim and the kids were over here, and Lacee really wanted to go out to eat with us... I think that she has a crush on Tyler.

We went to Sir Ezra's Steak House, in the same location as my old sometimes favorite Fairlawn Cafe. The food was very good, still not up the the old North Star, but alas! The old North Star is gone, replaced by the new and "improved" North Star.

Lacee decided to act like a seven-year-old for a change, and kept us amused. After we were done eating, we took her home and then Tyler and I sat out on the front deck discussing philosophical issues. I really enjoy these times with Ty, they seem to be so rare lately.

I had talked to JD before Tyler got here, he seemed pretty blue and down. School, his mother's divorce, GF problems... I wish that I could help him solve those, but I can't, dammit.

I went to bed shortly after Tyler left, completely exhausted from no sleep and too much work. I got up about 04:00 and read the paper, but no coffee yet 'cause I'm gonna try to go back to sleep for a little while, 'til Karen wakes up anyway.

18:53...
I got a good solid six hours of sleep... I ODed on the cough medicine, I think that did the trick.

Karen and I watched the Chief's game, which they won by a good margin, knocking the Super Bowl champs off of their 5-game winning streak.

After the game, I went to office max to get some polaroid notebook inserts... I had borrowed the picture book from the ED and scanned in a bunch of photos of some really gory stuff and some really amusing stuff. The insert pages were pretty torn up though, so I replaced them with better quality ones. If anyone wants the URL of the picture page, drop me a line... a cautionary note: not for the faint of heart...

Then I took the book back, along with the pager that I should have returned yesterday and forgot about...

Karen and I had left-over steak (from last night) and eggs for supper... always an excellent combination. Now, however, I'm really tired so I'll probably go to bed early after fortifying myself with more cough syrup. This bronchitis is a bitch.

Thanx for being here!
