Again no sleep, dammit all. Well, the now-normal three hours. Sucks, really sucks. I'm going to blame the medication, the Zyban.
I got packed & gassed up, just waiting for Karen to get off work... just as she got home it started raining, then stopped... then it started hailing. Covered the ground with 1/2-inch hailstones. Just about that time, Kim and the kids pulled up in the driveway and waited for the hail to stop.
Karen and I pulled out about 17:45... Lisa, who was supposed to house-sit for us, never showed up, and she didn't answer her phone. Kim will do the duties while we're gone... no big deal, just feed the cat and get the paper in.
We stayed just ahead of the cold front and imbedded thunderstorms all of the way, although it was right on our tail most of the early part of the night.
We took the bypass south of KC and got caught in a huge traffic jam, but we got off and managed to bypass it and get back on I-470... just a matter of luck, I didn't really know what I was doing.
On towards St. Louis. Traffic jam somewhere in the middle of the state, probably Comumbia... when we got to the source we found that they were resurfacing the road at 22:00 on a Friday night??? Probably getting double-time wages for it, too. There was about two miles of creeping traffic to get to that one.
Still on towards St. Louis... getting tired. We stopped at a Super* motel but they had no vacancies, but they directed us to a Colonial Inn down the road a ways. High Hill, Mo. Not recommended. Small room, bright lights, drapes that were too thin. The bed is OK, and karen is asleep in a flash, as usual. That is so damned irritating sometimes... like, when I can't sleep.
Tomorrow: heading easterly still....
