Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

Long day. Kinda crummy, too.

I stayed up most of the night last night, thinking to start my turn-around early. However, I only slept from 05:30 to about 09:30 and woke up with a helluva headache.

Tyler came over about 11:00... he was going to the funeral of a girl that he'd known who was killed Saturday in a car wreck. The police said that there was alcohol involved and that she'd been speeding and not wearing her seat belt. 21 years old... damn.

This is the first friend that Tyler has lost, and he seemed to be doing pretty well today. He came back over later and we talked for a while and he picked up some clothes.

After he'd left, I went back to bed with my headache and managed to get back to sleep for a coupla more hours, but that was it.

Most of my computer time lately has been spent in an atheist/agnostic forum, and I'm wondering if I'm not getting too involved in this. It seems that I really spend a lot of time thinking about religion and the lack of it and the relationship to politics.

And I am worried about the general apathy of the public regarding the first amendment. There are quite a few religious people who support separation of religion and government, more than I had thought, anyway, but still a minority. Most people just plain don't seem to care.

Of course, I think that all religion is silly, but there are a bunch of people who are dead serious about it, and they are quite vocal. They want to "Take America Back" and they scare me because I can see that there is a possibility of them doing just that. They believe that their morality should be the law of the land.

Pat Robertson demonstrates the epitome of this kind of thinking... Well, not really. Gary Bauer does, but he's gone. Pat is way too righteous for almost everybody, though, and I don't really think that he will be a factor.

Geedub Bush, however, is a different story. He's a sneaky bastard. Well, not really. He's probably too dumb to be sneaky... it's his handlers that are sneaky.

The supreme court, right now, is what's been saving us, and they will continue to do so for a while, at least until the next one dies or retires. Congress is part of the problem... they are going to vote to get the votes. They feel safe in doing this because they know that the supreme court will keep the country out of trouble.

But someday soon, when the court changes, the congresspeople will have to change. They will have to actually be responsible for the direction that this country takes... and I'm afraid that we'll be in trouble.

O'well. It's not really my problem, either... they probably won't start burning us atheists at the stake for another twenty years or so....

More tomorrow.

Thanx for being here!
