"Prayer is like a pump in an empty well, it makes lots of noise, but brings no water." [Lemuel K. Washburn, _Is The Bible Worth Reading And Other Essays_]
Back in Topeka. I laid down for a nap about 19:00 and knew that I couldn't sleep, so I decided to get up and be on my way. I hate to leave Mom, it seems that I see her so seldom anymore.
So I stopped at the Conoco Convenience Store on the way out of town and got a large coffee in a styrofoam cup with one of those little fold-up lids. I fix the lid and put the cup between my legs as I'm pulling out of the station. I'm in the right lane, following a relatively new van going about 35... when the van comes to a dead stop. I stand on the brake petal and stop six inches from his bumper. Just as I get stopped, he makes a left-hand turn from the right lane, and I'm sitting there burning.
Yeah, the coffee was hot. Said so on the cup. Luckily, nothing vital was injured.
The rest of the trip back was uneventful... and I figgered something out about the deer. I noticed that the deer-blood stains were all different colors of brown and red, and then I realized that some of those stains had been there for a month or so... since the last time that it rained, anyway. That's why there seemed to be so many of them being killed.
Speaking of rain... the governor of Oklahoma has asked everyone to pray for rain. Like, maybe god doesn't know that the okies don't like drought? Actually, it should be kinda pissed off that the okies had the audacity to point out that the weather wasn't perfect...
Anyway, I got home about 00:30 and found that Lacee was sleeping on my side of the bed... I kinda remember Karen mentioning that she might be over. I decided that I would go to sleep anyway, I was tired enough to just drop off.
And that didn't work, naturally. That little girl squirms all over the place, all of the time. After getting an elbow in the ribs several times I gave up on it and got up.
I went back in about 08:00 and woke them up... Karen got up, and I pushed Lacee clear over to the other side of the bed and finally got to sleep... for about three hours.
Been up ever since then, and I'm ready to go to sleep. I think that I'll go read a while... the Harry Potter second book. I've already finished the third one, thinking that it was the second, dammit, so now I know some things that I wish that I didn't. O'well, it's an entertaining story anyway.
More tomorrow...
