Let's see... where to start... O'yeah, smoking.
Karen told me last night before she went to bed that it was silly trying to quit, because I was going fishing with Andy, and he would be smoking. I don't know why I listened to her, I hardly ever listen to her, but I did this time.
So... my resolve lasted just fine, then I went to bed about midnight. Unfortunately, I awoke about 02:00 and couldn't get back to sleep. Awake, I lasted another 3 hours before I just had to have a smoke.
I have again decided to smoke outside, though. This will cut way down on the amount that I smoke and keep the house from stinking.
Whew! Now that that's out of the way..
Andy got here right after 06:30... I shoulda had him come at 05:30, so we woulda been on the pond as day broke. But anyway, it was a beautiful morning for fishing. We went quite a while before we started catching any, but after we got 'em figgered out we did pretty good. I did catch one semi-monster, a five-pounder. Andy's best was a nice three-pounder.
We did have a bunch of fun, though. I like fishing with Andy almost as much as I like fishing with Tyler or JD.
We came home about noon, stopping at McDs' first... I was pretty tired, and I went to bed about 14:00 and slept until 18:30. I kinda wanted to watch Dennis Miller do his first Monday Night Football... I watched for about a half-hour and found it just as boring as ever.
I'm kinda intellectually shamed by being a football fan... but the only team that I like to watch is the KC Chiefs, and I don't even really know why I like to watch them... local interest, I guess. The two teams that were playing tonight didn't do a thing for me.
When I came back from buying cigarettes early this morning I watched a spider killing a firefly that had bumbled into its web. The web is just outside of our front door, and I stood there watching for about ten minutes... the only light was from the fireflys internal power. Its little blinker just kept getting slower and slower as it died.
Anyway, this started me thinking about life in general... it doesn't take much to do that.
Anyway, in every case, it's the strong eating the weak, either literally or figuratively. Which got me to thinking about the xian maxim, "The meek shall inherit the earth" Well, that's 'cause they're gonna get eaten by the bold in this life, and if you can get the meek to believe that then you're way ahead of the game. They'll sit there and wait to be eaten, happy in the knowledge that they will inherit the earth and that you (the eater) will rot in hell.
And this little scene made me think about how the god of most religions is supposed to be perfect, yet (s)he made a very imperfect world for us humans. That's either a very incompetent god... which is vastly illogical... or there's something else going on here.
And it couldn't be simple cruelty, that's impossible too... perfect means, among other things, not cruel.
The only thing that makes sense is that god created us to be the playthings of a cruel, sadistic people who were gods real chosen people.
But that doesn't make any sense, either, for god would have had to create them too... so we come the full circle.
It just doesn't work.
So I've been sitting here working on that web site.... well, OK, I'm sitting here playing solitaire, mostly. I'm planning on staying up most of the night and getting into the groove early.
The whisky thing is back, dammit. For the last two or three weeks I've found myself thinking frequently about how to get a bottle and where to hide it and when to drink it. Dammit, this shit just never goes away. No problem, though, I'm still resisting quite well.
Well, I really better go work on that site now. More tomorrow...
