Natterings, Notions

Notes

Much busier last night. I dunno what was going on, but we had plenty of patients through the ED, and the ICU business picked up considerably too.

The hospital census has been close to an all-time low for this time of the year and there seems to be no simple explanation for that. Things are starting to pick up, however, and I have the feeling that things will be back to "normal" (busy) when I get back. For example, Friday night there were four patients in the ICU, last night there were nine...

This was a nice rotation, though. Boring is OK occasionally.

This morning, starting about 01:00, I was thinking about all of the projects that I wanted to get started on when I got home. Man, I can really think ambitiously! I was anticipating getting out of there at 07:00 on the dot and getting some work done...

I'm not usually a clock-watcher, but at 06:00 I glanced at the time and realized that leaving at 07:00 wasn't going to happen, even though I kicked into high gear about 05:00. People just kept calling and wanting me to do stuff, dammit, and I'm not the type of guy who can say no.

I did get done enough by 07:20 to walk out without feeling too guilty, though. But. It happened again. I think that it's got something to do with the truck... as soon as I get in it and head home, my ambition seeps out of my ass... well, bad choice of word, there, sounds kinda messy.

So I got home and sat down, thinking I just needed a little rest, then I would get started. Patrick was staying with me until Steve got off at 10:00, and I would start working then...

Didn't happen, natch. I really tried, I thought about it a lot. I decided to sleep on it for a coupla hours.

Yeah. Right.

I woke up at 19:00... way too late to start anything like mowing the lawn or anything else. Besides, I have to have a pot of coffee to wake up, and by then it was 20:30. So I just read my email, trying to catch up.

And I read that Napster is being forced to shut down, at least temporarily. I haven't checked to see if the alternative sites will be following suit, but I'm sure that some of them will. There will be appeals, that goes without saying, but for right now, midnight tonight is going to be it.

Interesting weather tonight... we've got some major thunderstorms moving in from the north, something that is very infrequent. They're about 60 miles north of here right now, coming in at 40MPH, with winds up to 70MPH and 11/2 inch hail. The big one will most likely fizzle out before it gets here, though... late-summer thunderstorms usually don't have enough energy to last through the night.

And I think that it's bedtime... maybe I will get up early tomorrow and be ambitious...

Thanx for being here!
