And we did. Get some real work done, I mean. Not a whole lot, but it's a start, heh?
Went to bed late, got up early... I was up at 05:30 again, and JD got up shortly afterwards, as did Karen. Karen got ready to leave and her car wouldn't start. I went out to wiggle the key (which sometimes works...) and found that the dome light had been left on all night, so she took the truck to work.
When I went to put the charger on, I found that the terminals were badly corroded, a problem that I would fix later. JD and I went to get some supplies at Lowes, with a preliminary stop at Carrol's Electronics to get some network cables. While we were browsing around Carroll's, my buddy Bob came in, he was picking up some cabling ends... he works for SWB. It was good seeing him again, I hadn't seen him since he and Kimberly broke up.
we got what we needed at Lowes and headed to the auto parts store, where I got some spark plugs and an air filter for Karens Subaru and some anti-corrosion disks for her battery cables.
We started to get set up to do the plumbing (we're replacing the drainage system for the bathroom vanity) and I couldn't find my two-inch hole saw bit. I looked and looked and looked some more. I need a damned garage, that's what I need... I really get frustrated trying to find stuff that I know I have... especially when they're expensive.
But no. I really lost it, it's gone. Gotta buy another one, dammit. $20.00.
So I worked on the battery for a while and got it squared away, then JD and I went to Taco Tico. After eating, we went to Whelan's, another hardware store, the one where Andy works, to buy the damned thing. Unfortunately, Andy wasn't there, out to lunch. In the meantime, JD had instilled in my mind that maybe I didn't want a two-incher, since the fittings that we'd got earlier were one-and-a-halfs.
So we left without the hole saw, but I did pick up some lag bolts for Karen's clothes racks in the bathroom...
Well, Karen's clothes racks are another story altogether, and I won't really get into that all right now... suffice to say that, after twelve years, they ripped out of the wall about three months ago. I was not going to put them back, but I had a change of heart today, and now they're there to stay. Good and solid.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
After we came home, JD decided that it was time for a nap, since he had plans for tonight, and I decided that I needed one too. Well, he got one, but I just laid there for a half-hour then got up and did the rest of the work on the Subaru.
Putting spark plugs in a a really easy job, but for one problem. And this problem has occurred with every vehicle that I have ever owned, except for the flat-head fords that I started out with...
There is always ONE damned plug that is a bitch to get to. Usually only one. So I spent 15 minutes on the first three and 30 minutes on the last one. Because I can only turn the ratchet, once it's on the plug, about five degrees. And it's gotta go 20 revolutions before it's seated. And my hands got tired.
But that's all over now.
JD got up, and Karen got home, and JD left, so I decided to royally screw up the network.
Now, doesn't it make sense that a machine that's going to do DCHP would also keep track of the IPs? Like, be able to do DNS? Well, Win2K won't. So I decided to set up DNS on one of the Linux boxes, after all, they're servers, right?
Well, setting up the DNS was no problem, really... but the W2K machine decided that since it wasn't his DNS, that he wasn't going to play with the riff-raff. Doesn't talk to them properly. Won't let them use his internet connection.
Bastard.
So, I'm leaving it the way it is for tonight... I've gotta get some sleep so that I can maybe think about stuff. Especially stuff like that.
More tomorrow, I hope.
