Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

Well, dammit, I've seen some sad things, but this one takes the cake.

An elderly woman dies here in Topeka, not unexpectedly.

Her daughter comes down from Wyoming for the funeral. She has her husband and various other relatives with her. The funeral is today.

They go to a local bar and spend some time reminiscing and drinking. This lady from Wyoming get up and goes to the rest room. As she is coming out, she stumbles and falls against a door leading to the basement. The door is supposed to be locked, but it isn't. She falls down 20 steps onto a concrete floor.

She is unconscious and not breathing when we get her. Pupils fixed and dilated. The CT scan that I do shows skull fractures and an unsurvivable basilar bleed.

When I left this morning, she was on life support and the transplant teams were on their way.

It's been said before... life's a bitch, and then you die.

I really feel for her family.

Busy night last night was. I didn't really like it much. Tard... I got up late, to boot, and that usually makes the night worse.

It wasn't busy when I got there, but things really picked up shortly thereafter. One of the evening people stayed over and helped for an hour, but it didn't really quit until about 04:00, and then there was the paperwork to get done...

I had a meeting with Tylers counsellor this morning, and I really liked her. She agrees that he is a great kid, but that he's still got a long ways to go with this program. I really feel that he has a really good chance, especially with people like her helping to guide him.

And it seems that summer is finally arriving... hot for the next few days, at least, with only slight chances for thundershowers. Things usually slow up, rainwise, here in Kansas about the first of July. Sometimes it doesn't rain again until September... I hope that it doesn't do that this year!

OK, bedtime. Past bedtime for my legs, in fact. More tomorrow...

Thanx for being here!
