June twenty-first. The first day of summer. Whoop-dee-***ing-do. Yeah. Only three askerisks, just to confuse you.
We had a good storm yesterday as I was getting off work, or was it before? I can't remember. Anyway, we had another one yesterday afternoon... the power went out long enough to wake me up.
So I missed the preceding wind, but it was a nice thunderstorm anyway. Tyler and Lacee were watching it, with Lacee trying to get Tyler to come inside... she thought that he was crazy standing on the back deck. She never mentioned me being crazy though... I guess that she'd made her mind up about that a long time ago.
Once that it was clear that the show was over, I went back to bed, and slept until about 20:00... way past when I'd wanted to get up.
It was quiet when I got to work... and it pretty much stayed that way all night. One problem, though...
I had a bunch of portables in the units, more than I'd had for a long time. As I was pulling them out of the printer and labeling them, I noticed that one of the open-heart patients had a pneumothorax. Well, this is pretty serious, even though the guy was not showing any signs (other than the normal) of having trouble breathing...
So I let the nurse know. Very unofficially, of course. Very. Normally, the nurse would go listen to the patient's lungs and then call the surgeon. Not this one, however... she wanted an official report. So I woke the rad up and had him come read the film and give her the official report. So we wasted about a half-hour there. It worked out OK this time...
Of course, I should not be giving out even unofficial reports. People get fired for stuff such as that, and I do not want to get fired. In order to do the *right* thing, I would have said nothing, and waited until the patient's films were read sometime after 08:00. My ass would be completely covered then.
But the patient's ass might be in the morgue by then. I really couldn't live with that, although I know some who could.
The supreme court has again spoken on *allowing* prayers at school functions. Does it surprise anyone (who isn't a Texan) that prayer sponsored by students is just as unconstitutional as if the teachers instituted it?
Same case, different lawyers. It's not over... oddly, no other religions besides xianity are trying to break down the barriers between the government and religion. And I'm sure that there is a silent majority of xians out there who just want the loudmouths to shut up and step out of the spotlight. The silent majority just want to go to their respective churches and worship. They realize that the constitution (well, OK, the first amendment) is what makes this possible.
But the loudmouths want everyone to think the way that they do... it's not enough to just try to get people to go to church and believe... they need power (the government) to force all of the other people to do what they want them to do...
This whole religion thing is ridiculous.
What kind of a god would need a translator? Especially since he seems to choose his personnel in such a questionable manner... Jim Jones? Jim Baker? That guy at Waco?
I would imagine that any competent god would be able to get me a message more directly. Y'know, whispering in my ear, talking in my head, that sort of thing.
O'wait! I think that's what happened to those guys I mentioned earlier. And it happens to almost every schitzophrenic, I've heard. At least to the ones that I've known.
And that's just speaking of the ones that are truly nuts. There are more than a few that are in the *profession* for other, more personal motives... the accumulation of wealth, sex, the adulation of their fans...
Ah, well, I know that I'm mostly preaching to the choir here... unless Mom is still reading... but I'm tired of having religion being part of my life. Or anti-religion, as it were. Why can't these people just go to their churches and do whatever it is they do to amuse themselves and leave me and my government alone?
And, while we're at it, why don't we get them to pay taxes, like any other entertainment business? If we would just tax the churches' property fairly, we would be able to really improve our school systems. At least here in Kansas, where property taxes pay for the schools...
OK. Bedtime. More tomorrow...
O'yeah. I forgot to talk about summer, didn't I? Well, I didn't have anything good to say about it anyway.... maybe next year.
