It was a long night, but not as bad as I had expected... nothing like last Thursday, at least!
One of my old, old girlfriends (like, from after the army but before the first wife) brought her mother in for treatment last night, and I enjoyed talking to her and her current BF... she is still a free spirit. Four or five husbands down the tubes...
You know how some women improve with age? I'm sorry to say, this one hasn't. Of course, I'm not one to talk, I guess. What impressed me years ago about her was her wispishness, and that is still evident. However, it goes by a different name now.
Airheaded.
Ah, the regrets... sins not committed, that sort of stuff... how the hell did I manage to survive those times?
Her best friend is the one that I really had the crush on, though. And that led to nothing, kinda like most of my life at that point in time. Well, that's wrong. Everything led to whisky, more whisky.
I-link. Free long-distance. I like free. I talked to Mom for a while this morning, she seemed just fine, as she always does. Suggestion: if you use this, copy the URL and put it in a text file somewhere where you can find it... it's web-based, and it can't be saved in your favorite folder... they've got the right-click functions turned off.
And pay attention to the screen, especially the pop-ups... after the first three minutes, you have to click every minute to stay connected. And if you have a help window open (it's a pop-up, so it gets easily hidden) it won't tell you to click, and you get disconnected.
I talked to JD for a while this afternoon, too. That was nice, but we got cut off twice... once because I was talking to Tyler as he was leaving, and again a few minutes later because the help window was open but hidden...
My plan this morning was to come home, get Tyler up and go get a hot water tank... but when I went down to get Tyler up, he told me that he had a meeting at 08:30. He will be going three times a week, MWF, for four hours each day. Anyway, he still didn't have current tags for his truck, so he had to take mine... so I didn't get anything done.
He did get his proof of insurance in the mail today, though, and he's out getting his tags now. He had to borrow money from me to get them, though.
21:25...
We got the tank, brought it home and... put it in. Amazingly, it went pretty well. Problems getting the old one out, of course, and it's still sitting downstairs, slowly draining.
I couldn't figger out why it drained so slow, then I realized that it's probably at least half-way filled with silt. It was a 50-gallon tank, and I got a 40... it was a bunch cheaper. And I realized that we had probably been getting by just fine with about a 25-gallon capacity one because of the silt.
This also means that it'll be a bitch getting it up the stairs. Silt is heavy. 25 gallons of it it really heavy.
Karen still wasn't home when we got done (she isn't home yet, even...) so we went out to eat. Washed our hands at the restaurant, 'cause we didn't have any hot water yet... We talked about a lot of stuff, mostly relating to Tyler's future, both near and far. I'm sure that he's getting real tard of me saying, "Tyler, you need to..."
But I'm not getting tard of saying it, and I will continue until I can see the effects.
And I'm really proud of us... a plumbing project completed without any extra trips to the hardware store! Which reminds me... mom is having trouble with her toilet downstairs, I'll have that to look forward to on my next visit. That, and a little wiring job... "Little" is a relative term in that old house, especially pertaining to wiring!
Tyler is in taking a shower now, it'll be my turn when he gets out. I did get a little nap today, but not much, and I'm going to bed early.
More tomorrow...
Karen came home right as Tyler and I were leaving to go pick up the new hot water tank. She had decided to go get Brian in Lawrence...
