Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

Not a bad night. Steady, but no running.

Only five more nights left for this cycle.

Even though I haven't had any bad nights yet, I'm beginning to feel ground down. Not sleeping too well, but long enough. Yesterday after I'd been asleep about two hours, I awoke from a dream where none of the light switches worked.

This is another of those infrequently-repeated dreams that I've had for most of my life. I'm in a dark place and I know that there are critters out there that want to eat me, and that if I could turn on the lights they would go away... but I can't turn on the lights. Or sometimes the lights go on, but very, very dimly, so you can see that the filament is warm, but not hot. And the critters creep up.

This dream never ends with the lights coming on, either. I always wake up first. But the critters never get me... not that I can remember.

This is a much better dream than the one where I'm roaming around in an old house trying to find a bathroom, though. I really hate those, because by the time I wake up I almost can't really make it to the real bathroom...

The places on my chest and groin that were recently shaved are really itching. Not nearly as bad as the poison ivy did, though. Speaking of which, I've got a recurrence of the rash on my legs, in exactly the same places... but it doesn't itch, it's just red. And none on my torso of my arms or my hand.

I'm kinda wondering if part of that whole thing wasn't the newest medication that I'm on, maybe it's sensitized me or something. Regardless, I'm gonna continue taking it, since my lipid levels are so well-controlled now.

The weather here is going to be simply beautiful for the next few days, that'll be great for the people who can get out and enjoy the holiday. I just hope that none of the locals hurt themselves... although that is a quite futile hope. This is traditionally one of the busiest holidays for our department. People aren't used to playing so hard outside yet... and a lot of them will hurt themselves.

28.jpg O'well... it's a living.

Like most people in the medical field, I'm interested in the mechanisms of injury... like, how did this bone break when that bone right beside it not break? Did this guy's foot turn in or out to when he came down on it to produce this type of fracture?

Many people don't know the answers, though... things happen fast when you have an accidental injury, and then there's the pain...

Most of the relatively minor injuries (by which I mean non-life-threatening) are embarrassing to people for some reason. They feel stupid for slipping on a wet floor or stepping off of a curb wrong or falling off of a ladder. Actually, very few injuries are stupid, but most of them are caused by carelessness. Quite simply, people not really paying attention to what they're doing and where they're walking. But not stupid.

On the other hand, there are a lot of really stupid people out there, and some of them are careless too.

Well, time for a good day's sleep... I hope.

Thanx for being here!
