Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

Another fairly easy night, up until the last coupla hours, anyway.

And I got some pretty good sleep yesterday, too, and that helps a lot.

We had a patient that turned into a code walk in about 05:15 that pretty much blew the rest of the shift for me. The doc decided to do a lung scan on her, looking for a pulmonary embolus, but that couldn't get done until 07:00, so it was decided that we'd do a CT Pulmonary Embolus study. Well, OK, so I got the patient on the table, planned the scans from the scout and injected the contrast and started the scanner.

And the damned scanner didn't work.

Again.

This is so frustrating for me.

Earlier in the evening, I'd done an exam on a seven-year-old and it worked perfectly.

Luckily, the 05:00 CT guy walked in early, and we set it up again... and it failed again. I was happy that there was, at least, a witness.

So we got the patient off of the table and down to the Nuclear Medicine department for the lung scan, which was the best way of discovering her pulmonary status anyway. And damned if it wasn't negative...

Anyway, by that time my supervisor was there, and she sent me off to a mandatory meeting, which lasted about an hour. I got out of there about 08:30 and I felt completely drained. The patient that I mentioned earlier had no change in her status, and they still had no idea what was going on with her when I left.

I guess that I'll find out when I get back tonight.

It looks like it's going to be yet another gorgeous day, and the predicted storms last night missed us, dammit. Tomorrow, however (my first day off), it's supposed to get cool, high in the low 60s. And windy, too.

But no rain, so I'll just have to keep putting this expensive water on the lawn.

More tomorrow...

Thanx for being here!
