Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

Well, darn, I haven't heard from mom, so I don't know if she's offended or is ignoring me or maybe she just hasn't read yesterday's entry yet...

Hard to write tonight. I've been putting it off, because I'm really bored - or maybe frustrated is a better word - with the way things seem to be going for me and my endeavors lately.

I'm spinning my wheels and getting absolutely nowhere with these damned Linux machines.

But before I get into that...

After I went to bed last night, I started having severe chest pains. I was initially pretty worried, trying to wish them away, but that didn't work. So I sat on the edge of the bed and it kinda eased up a bit. I'd taken my pills and then went to bed too soon, it was the esophgitis, thankfully. I got up and puttered around for a while then when I went back to bed in a coupla hours it was all better.

Every time that happens I get scared... not like scared scared, but just really wondering if I'm gonna die in the next few minutes. And then I don't, and I can laugh about it.

I seem to be laughing about it less lately... I know that, sooner or later, it will be a reality. I wonder what I'll feel like when I really know?

Not something to dwell on, however.

So, I got up early again this morning, raring to go as usual... (NOT!) but I had told Eileene that I could come over and work on her camera-computer connection. There was an email from her that she would have to cut it short, she had something else that she had to do afterwards... so I thought that we'd better postpone that project for another day. It's quite simply a matter of going through a set of software switches and hitting the right combination... but you have to re-boot in between each one, and she's got a S-L-O-W machine there...

So I stayed home and... worked on the Linux machines. The one that I was planning on using for the router/server was screwed up enough that I thought I'd better re-install the software... this was before I remembered what a nightmare it was installing on this particular machine (a combo of old... really old...parts).

I struggled with that for a coupla hours, then I remembered that I'd read about a simple, single-disk Linux router. YES! The perfect, single solution!

8.jpg So I hooked the WIN machine back up and went searching for, and found, Freesco. Read the directions. It really looked like I could handle it.

Well, I couldn't.

It took me about three hours to figger that out, though. So I was back to square one again.

I fiddled and fiddled and fiddled some more, then I turned off that box and shoved it under the desk.

And I turned on the other one. Another mistake. I've got it all screwed up now. Turned it off, shoved it under the desk too.

My one triumph of the week was getting Mom's old monitor to work. Problem is, it only works when the case is off of it. When I put the case back on, it fizzles out again. Something is loose, but I can't find it... something that gets strained when I put the cover on. There are ways of finding out, and I will, eventually.

If I don't die first.

Well, OK, it's back to that again, I guess. My problem with dying is that I'm having too much fun working on my problems. So, right now there's a dearth of solutions, but, hey, there's always tomorrow...

When I will write again.

Thanx for being here!
