Tard. Really damned tard.
I got to bed pretty late, and I got up pretty early, and I didn't sleep worth a damn.
Eileene got a digital camera, and she was having trouble getting it to connect with her computer, so I went over and tried for an hour or so without success. So I brought it home and tried it on Karen's machine and, with a bunch of fooling around and re-boots, got it working. So that's probably all that it will take on hers, I was just too impatient... that and the fact that there might be some bad components, which proved OK when it worked over here...
Anyway, I downloaded the pix and sent them on to her... it'll probably take her an hour to get them, she's got a (gasp) 14.4 modem... I'm gonna persuade her to get a new machine soon, I think...
After that, I went to Whelans, where Andy works, and stood around a while waiting for him to get unbusy... but he never did. I left and went to the bank and did some other chores, then I went back again, and this time he wasn't busy. We loaded up the tiller into the truck and I took off with it.
Tyler and I got it off of the truck and soon started in with it. Took us a while to figger it out. Before we did, we decided to take a break and go to the Home Depot and get some fertilizer and seed and a rake... wound up with a few more things, including a drain pipe... more on that later.
I looked at some similar tillers at Home Depot, and upon further inspection of the one that we got, I figgered out how to get the drive to work. We'd been pushing the son-of-a-bitch, and that was really hard work.
Well, even with the drive working, it's really hard work, but we (mostly Tyler) got more than half-way done with the yard. I didn't realize how much crab-grass we have, but it entwines itself in the tines readily, and impedes progress greatly.
I think that we'll get finished up in the morning, then we have to rake it all and fertilize it and then seed it before it starts raining... sometime tomorrow evening, according to Karen.
We quit way before dark, yeah, I know... but we aren't used to such hard work, y'know. Got cleaned up and went out to my favorite eatery... the New China restaurant. Tyler had never been there, and he was duly impressed.
While we were out there, I saw my old fishin' buddy Les... I haven't seen him for quite a while, so we kinda got caught up on stuff.
Came home and Karen watched the rest of her serial and I started working on the damned network again. I thought that I had this thing solved, but I guess not. It just quit working, and I still haven't got it going, but I thought that I would stop and write this before I continued... I should just go ahead and make one of the Linux boxes into a router, but I'm not ready to deal with that hassle... nor with this one, for that matter.
Boy, I know a lot about networking now... about a tenth of what I need to know to just run a small one.
It was nice spending time with Tyler today... I do hope that he will keep his resolve so we can enjoy many more days together...
More tomorrow...
