Another pleasant day. I got up kinda early, but not early enough to see Lara off... she was gone when I got up. JD got up and got ready for school and left about 08:30, only to return about 09:00 because his professor had cancelled his class... very unusual for this guy, JD said.
His next class, which was a tutoring session, didn't start until 11:00, so we sat around and talked and watched CNN. Shortly after JD left, I took a nice long nap until about 13:00.
Shortly after I got up, I went out to smoke, and two of JD's neighbors, an elderly couple, were sitting in their yard. The lady came across the road and invited me to come over and chat with them , so I went in and put on my sandals and spent about an hour with them.
Very nice people. Kiser, is their last name... somewhere around 75, I would guess. He was diagnosed with prostate carcinoma thirteen years ago, and is taking chemo for it now... he gave me the impression, without really saying it, that this was about the last that they could do for him.
They had just celebrated their 50th anniversary this weekend... we'd noticed a lot of cars and people over there.
This area is rife with life-forms of types and varieties not known is Kansas... the chameleon is a fascinating creature, as are its' cousins, whatever they are... and the birds! And, of course, the bugs... fire ants. I've never been bitten, and I will endeavor to stay unbitten... and the skeeters...
After taking my leave from the Kisers, I called Karen... the appliance guy was over at the house today and had to order a part for the fridge... but still way cheaper than buying a new one. Everything else there seems to be fine.
I also talked for quite a while with my ex-wife. Usually I have problems talking with her, but today I didn't... we talked for probably 90 minutes, with nary an evil word passing between us. Talked mostly about Tyler, of course... more on that later. Not later today, but just later...
I really hate to leave, dammit, I've really enjoyed myself down here with JD... but I want to stay with Mom a couple of days, and I really really miss Karen, too. I just need everybody that I love to live in the same town. Is that too much to ask?
More tomorrow...
