Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

I had a slightly better night... they only ran me hard for nine of the twelve hours.

But I only got four hours' sleep yesterday... I got up at 13:00 after going to bed at 09:00. I tried to get more for a coupla hours, then gave it up.

And I have all of the usual complaints, which I won't go into this morning. With one additional... my back hurts too.

One of the city cops let me in on the solution to the mystery that I mentioned yesterday... about why these stupid kids continue drinking and driving. Well, none of the read the newspapers, being practically illiterate, and the only TV that they watch is the cartoon channels and HBO. He also pointed out that all of the recent ones have come from well-to-do families.

Just a coincidence, I'm sure. I never knew any well-to-do kids when I was growing up, but I was more well-to-do non-materially than almost everyone that I knew, and much more than most of the kids that I see come through the ED.

And I was still a drunk driver until I was 37. Go figger.

But I was lucky... and the kids that we see in the ED aren't lucky, not at all. And we've just passed a law here that has stiff penalties for any underaged kid who has a blood alcohol level of more than 0.02. That's not very much... I think that all of the kids in both wrecks Friday and Saturday nights were cited for alcohol abuse, with the drivers getting DUIs in addition.

Saturday was a beautiful day here... and the donorcycles were out in force. That's "motorcycles" to the uninitiated... There were five injury MC accidents, we got two of them Saturday. That was all over with by the time I got to work, though. One of them might not make it (head injury... no helmet... DUH!) and the other one will walk funny for the rest of her life.

In other news... well, not really, but just slightly changing the subject... I'm still thinking about a day job. I'm getting killed on nights, and my body is just not really able to take it any longer, I'm afraid. I love it, but... there comes a time when enough is enough. I don't really think that they'll put another person on third until they absolutely have to... which means, of course, after they wear me out completely. With two people on, it wouldn't really be such a bad job... depending on who the other person was, of course.

OK, now a real change of subjects... this Cuban kid, Elian? He should be with his dad. He should have be given back to his father as soon as he was rescued. The people who are holding him now, his mother's relatives... they're worried about the father intimidating him, getting him to want to go back to Cuba. How likely is it that they haven't been doing the same thing? Supposedly he and his father had a good relationship before he left Cuba... and now he's afraid of him? This is not likely to be a conclusion that he's reached all by himself, is it now...

People are so funny I want to puke.

That's all, folks. Off to bed I am.

Thanx for being here!
