Well, I was pretty happy when I went in to work last night... after all, I was only going to work nine hours, and get paid for ten! That should make anyone happy, right?
Problem was, I had to do 16 hours' worth of work... and it was ten hours before I got outa there, anyway.
You'd think that these young kids would learn... we had a young fellow (16YO) who has been charged with second-degree murder for the death of a passenger who was killed while he was driving drunk (back in early February... I think that I wrote about that one.). There has been a lot of publicity involved, headlines in the paper and it's been all over the local TV...
But no, they persist.
Friday night, there were three young boys... last night there were seven kids in one car that left the road at a high rate of speed. We got four of them, and once again, I did a whole bunch of x-rays. Three of them walked out, while the fourth is in surgery, having fractured her pelvis. I don't know how the others are, they went to the other hospital.
I wound up calling the CT tech on call in last night, though. I'd already done three CTs (two on other drunks...) and I knew that I wouldn't be able to handle the load. I really hate doing that... but then again, I hate being so damned busy. This is three nights in a row, I need a break here!
Well, three more nights and I'll get my break... 21 days! I'm looking forward to it.
Right now, though, my mind is shutting down, whining, "S---L---E---E---E---E---E---P! Must have SLEEP!" and I'm gonna follow my mind on this one.
