Sunday night... Karen is watching the Oscars, and I'm still fighting the
networking.
I woke up today feeling pretty decent, with only a little left-over
abdominal discomfort... much better than yesterday.
And Karen and I got some stuff done today... we cleaned out the laundry
room (the former kitchen) so we feel good about that. And Patrick came
over and cleaned out Karen's car this afternoon... he was wanting to earn
some money. It was more work than he had bargained for, but he did get
(mostly) finished.
It was a beautiful day... I had thought about spraying the dandelions, but
there was a thunderstorm coming up so I decided not to... and the
thunderstorm missed us, anyway.
So I really didn't get any outside work done today, but I still enjoyed
the weather...
Right now I'm re-installing WIN98SE on the main system... it was starting
to run pretty slow, and even after I did all of the usual things to fix
it, it didn't get any better... getting weird errors, stuff like that. At
least it's just a re-install, and not a reformat... haven't had to do one
of those for a while.
I'm using one of the Linux systems, and typing on a straight keyboard is
rough, though... I'm so used to my split one that it's really hard to hit
the right keys in the right order with the right fingers. I have a
tendency to revert to the hunt'n'peck method on regular keyboards,
crossing my fingers over to hit the keys with the wrong fingers...
I'm using PICO on the Linux, which is a very simple text editor. Emacs and
VI are on the machines, too... but they have a learning curve that I
haven't wanted to get started on yet. Maybe someday, when I have nothing
else interesting to do... O'wait, that will never happen, not if I can
help it...
Ah, now I'm back at my regular keyboard... much better. The re-install went OK, but I'm still getting one of
Probably something very, very important and since it's not doing it, I'm gonna have to re-format my drive in two weeks or less. That's what it does. Only Bill Gates knows...
And I still can't get the damned internet sharing to work. What the hell. When I installed it the first time, it went like a dream. And now... nothing but trouble, trouble, trouble. Maybe 'cause I read the instructions the first time? Naw, that don't sound like my style at all...
More tomorrow...
the errors, dammit. It comes up before I log in and tells me that such-and-such a program has caused an error and it will be shut down. So OK, shut it down, what do I care? I don't know what it does, anyway.
