Again, up too early. 6:00, before the sun even came up. And I went to bed fairly late last night, too.
Part of the problem is the bed, of course... we're used to a king-sized water bed, and mom doesn't have one of those... she has a standard double... which means that my feet hang over the end, even when I'm by myself.
Karen slept late... she said that she slept really well after I got up... much more room!
Mom fixed bacon and eggs and toast for breakfast and then we went out looking for a monitor. The only decent place in town with computer stuff is Staples, and they had a good variety of 17-inchers... all at pretty high prices. Then we went to Wal-mart, but they only had one monitor, an extremely off-brand for only $10 less than the cheapest one at Staples, so we went back to Staples and got a 17-inch MultiSync FE700. Really nice flat-screen, .25 dot pitch, all kindsa features.
Set it up, then read the manual. WIN98 picked right up on it, I just had to do a few adjustments.
And the manual gave some ergonomic tips as far as placement goes that will help Mom out, I think. It said that the top of the monitor should be at eye level... well, Mom is rather short. Five foot one inch in her prime, she's considerably less than that now.
So I took the power control out from under the monitor, then I took the base off of the monitor and set it directly on the desk and it worked out just right, according to the book... we'll see what Mom has to say about it in the next few weeks. She'd been having back, neck and shoulder problems which cleared up when the computer died...
By the time that was all done, I realized that it was nap time, so I crawled into bed and turned on the electric blanket. Karen woke me up in a coupla hours, she and Mom had made chili and they were ready to eat.
And after supper I had one of my more brilliant ideas... dessert at Braum's, of the relatively local ice-cream chain. I had a large, large chocolate malt, while Karen and Mom had hot fudge sundaes. I wound up finishing my malt at home, there was too much there... the ladies were finished while I was only half-way through.
And I checked the weather in Topeka... they're having snow now, going to get 1-3 inches, but it should mostly be gone by the time we get back. It's cool here in Enid, but only a 20% chance of rain tonight and otherwise dry...
More tomorrow...
