So, right after I bitched about not being able to get the Linux system to re-install, it decided to work like a charm. Installed whilst I showered, and was network-ready... well, more network-ready than it's been for a while. Now I'll get to screw it up again.
This is how I learn stuff best: screw it up, fix it. Screw it up, fix it. And with computers, any flavor, there is no end. There is always something else to screw up... forever and ever.
Last night at work was pleasant, starting out. Didn't get busy until everyone else left, then it went from steady to frantic, back and forth, back and forth.
Many of the ED patients that I did chest films on were positive... meaning that they had pneumonia, mostly, although there were some CHFers in there, too. Usually, it's only about 20% positive, as compared to 80% last night. I hope that this isn't indicative of things to come... lots of really sick people. Most of them started off with flu symptoms...
Karen and Kim and Steve and the kids just came back from taking stuff over to our (and I say "our" loosely...) xmas family. Karen said that it was a good experience... I've had several bad experiences with this type of deal, in the far past.
And tonight, my main computer is acting up badly... it's frozen (blue screened) on me several times already... seems like there's something strange going on. I'm saving this quite frequently...
I'm also confusing myself with two keyboards. I've got a switch for the monitor between the Linux box and the WIN98 one, but not a keyboard switch. A few minutes ago, I had to do a three-fingered salute on the WIN98 box, and I used the wrong keyboard, and re-booted the Linux box.
When I originally bought the switchbox, it was alleged that you could switch the monitor, keyboard and mouse, but I later found out that using the mouse part if you have a PS2 mouse would blow the switch... found that out the hard way, naturally.
So I put the box away for a coupla years, and decided that I really didn't want to buy another monitor (read:couldn't afford...) and thought that I'd give it a try, and it works now for the monitor part. I should be able to switch between four machines...
But I haven't tried the keyboard part again, yet ... but I need to, to avoid screw-ups like I just had.
Well, the old clock just keeps ticking away, and I have to get ready for work. And speaking of work... Saturday night was disastrous, I heard. A transient beat up three other transients, killing one of them and putting the other two in the hospitals... we got two of them, including the one that died.
Interestingly, the accused murderer had killed another transient about a year ago, but was released on a technicality... strange how our justice system works, isn't it?
More tomorrow...
