I got up too early again today, but I did get to see Karen before she left.
The computer problems continue, but I've got the rate of the disasters
slowed down to a reasonable pace finally. There are still a lot of things
that I need to get done, including getting the network established.
I can't figger out why this is giving me so many problems... the first time
I set it up, it was a snap.
Probably because the first time I used the books... this time I'm winging
it. I guess it's time to go back to the books.
When I turned on the computer this morning, the Quantex D: drive had gone
south again. This is the one that mysteriously had files appear on it that
shouldn't have been there...
So I spent another coupla hours working on that. I got the files to
re-appear, copied them and then reformatteed the disk.
And suddenly, I had an additional drive on the system. Yep, a phantom E:
drive was there, 4.7 Gigs, it was.
And it had stuff on it, too. Stuff that I couldn't access, of course, but
stuff that I badly needed. I drooled, then cried. It wasn't there!
Eventually, that extra drive, and me messing around with it, locked WIN98 up
tight. Back to DOS, and I partitioned and re-formatted the Quantex drive for
the last time, and overwrit everything with zeros. No more data there. Can't
be.
And it seems to be doing fine now. WIN98 likes it a lot.
But I don't think that I'll ever trust it again.
The CD burned is hooked up and going, and I will be making regular back-ups
again. No slacking this time.
Speaking of slacking, I haven't been... on my diet. I've been a very good
boy, I have, and I expect to be rewarded by living forever.
Give me immortality, or give me death!
Showered, shaved... I'm ready to go back to bed, make up some of the
accumulated deficit before I go in to work.
O'yeah, Monday and Tuesday are up now too...
Real soon, I'm gonna start with the pictures again, once I get things
settled down a little bit.
And I think, before I go to bed, I'm gonna set up Outlook, so I can get my
mail organized again...
More tomorrow.
