I actually got a (mostly) full night's sleep last night! From 22:30 until 05:30. I'm proud of myself. And boy, that's dumb.
Lacee got over here about 08:00 and then we got Tyler up and we got on the road by 09:00. We found the place with no trouble, and the receptionist said that it'd take about an hour, so Lacee and I went driving, looking for adventure.
We didn't find it, though. But it was fun, anyway. Near the complex where we dropped Tyler off, there was a series of ponds and paths. Lacee had wanted to pick some thistles, they looked so pretty... so I let her look at one close-up, and she decided to have nothing to do with it. We walked over a bridge, and there were fish congregating below. I spit my gum out and they attacked it voraciously... I wonder if it hurts their little bellies? Lacee couldn't spit her gum far enough to make it into the water, though. Another of life's little disappointments.
As was the whole trip, for her. Usually, she goes to KC with Kim and Karen and has... well, fun! Like, going to expensive places to eat, like, shopping in the malls, like, staying in a hotel and swimming.... didn't happen with grampa. Grampa is no fun.
We went back to pick up Tyler after the appointed hour, and, since he wasn't standing out front, we wandered down to another part of the pond complex. We saw a mommy duck with six little ducklings, and Lacee thought they were precious, of course. Then we sat down on a park bench, and carved into the seat was: "D+K (heart)". I told Lacee that that meant Doug loved Karen. She looked at me blankly. Coincidence, but pretty funny. Lacee didn't understand why I thought so, though.
We walked back up to the building, and Tyler was in the waiting area. I asked him how it went as we walked back out to the car... he was not happy. He didn't make it past the initial interview stage. They told him to come back in 30 days, when all of the MJ was out of his system.
Shortly after we were on the road home, Lacee went to sleep. Since we weren't going to go to a fancy restaurant for lunch (her preference was a jungle-theme upscale place in a mall in KC) she wanted McDonalds. Tyler had to fast for the potential screening, but he didn't mention that and I had forgotten about it... and since Lacee was asleep, we decided to go to the McD's in Topeka.
Ate, went home, Lacee called Steve, who was off work at noon, and he came over and picked her up.
Well, hell, I had fun with Lacee, even if she didn't have any with me. That counts in my book.
So, I figgered that it was time to take a nap, and I did, from 14:00 until about 17:00. Hoping to stay up pretty late tonight, and sleeping late tomorrow... the week off is over, dammit.
And I didn't get nearly anything done, either. Dammit again. O'well, there's always the next time... only a week away.
