Last night was horrible. Plain, simple horrible.
I had a really bad night, but some of my patients had even worse ones... luckily, not bad enough to die from.
Motorcycle/pickup meeting at an intersection. Pickup truck wins. Man and wife on motorcycle lose. Pretty lucky, though... didn't have helmets on, but no head injuries.
Pert near tore their legs off, though. A real mess. Still in surgery when I left at 07:15... valient and probably vain attempt by the surgeons to allow them to dance again. If it was my leg, I'd say, cut it off. Not my leg, though.
16 Year-old boy, walking down the street at 23:00 or so. Minding his own business. Someone drives by and shoots him in the chest. He thinks that he's gonna die, and we don't know. Bullet missed the major part of the lung, just a little nick. Did a CT of his chest and abdomen... he got really lucky. Had to put a chest tube in, he'll be out of the hospital in a day or two.
Everything happened at once, it seemed like, and all of the friends of the motorcycle people showed up, and all of the friends of the shot guy showed up, and it was hard moving people around to get stuff done.
My body is killing me. Sinuses flared up yesterday, and I didn't sleep worth a damn. Then had to run all night. I did get some Zithromax (antibiotic) from the doc, so that problem will be gone in a coupla days.
And I had to call in my
I need to sit a little and settle down before I go to bed. Relax some, let all of the bad vibes flow out, or something like that.
Near-full moon, friday night, beautiful weather and the eagle has flown. Like, what do I expect from such a night?
More tomorrow, should I survive...
backup and the CT tech on call... while the code reds were going on, nothing else stopped. Patients kept piling up on me... I had to leave a guy in the care of my favorite nurse in the CT scanner when the gunshot came in. I very seldom get paged "STAT" from the ED unless they really mean it, and they did this time.
