Gary Bauer. Republican candidate for president. He was on CNN just now, and he really pissed me off.
God has given us our liberty, and our constitution recognizes this, he said, and nobody but the village... atheist would argue with that.
He has apparently not read the constitution, and does not remember the flesh-and-blood men and women who have died for our liberty.
And he does not believe in the separation of church and state, nor in religious freedom, nor in freedom from religion.
Nope... you either believe his way, or you're apt to be compared to the village idiot.
But this is republican tradition. Pres Bush, after all, claimed that atheists should not be allowed to vote.
I really think that the primary duty of the president is to defend the constitution, after he has thoroughly read it. The constitution is not to be interpreted by politicins but by the supreme court... and they've interpreted this portion of it many times. That's why we don't have prayers in schools.
19:11...
It was a pretty productive day; I got the yard moved, anyway, and I got some sheet rock up. The yard was too wet to catch the grass, so I have to go over it again tomorrow. Parts of it were waist-high, almost. It was a damned jungle back there. I would mow for ten minutes, then rest for fifteen, and I got it done before noon.
A neighbor came by and wanted to buy part of a pile of bricks that I've had piled up against the fence for... maybe ten years or so. We couldn't arrive at a price, so I told him I'd give him what he needed. He's an older guy, probably retired, and he went and got his wheelbarrow and his wife and started moving bricks.
Pretty soon, he had his pick-up backed up into the park and they were loading bricks on that... a lot more practical, I thought.
About an hour after they'd finished, he came over with a $20 check. I tried to refuse it, but you know how that goes... I finally took his check.
Not much else happening today... it was beautiful, though a little windy. The wind didn't bother me, though, 'cause I wasn't fishing. Dammit.
JD seems to be doing rather well in Texas, I hear from him on a regular basis. I haven't heard from Tyler at all, though, I wonder what he's been up to... he was kinda planning on coming back within a week of when he left. Plans get changed frequently by my younger son, though.
My ISP seems to be down right now, so I hope that I can get this posted before I leave for the sleep study in a coupla hours...
I had an appointment with a loan officer at 15:00, so I cleaned up a little and went to that... trying to get a reduction on the interest rate. Unfortunately, the guy had some old figures that I'd given him a coupla years ago, and that's what he's worked up his proposal on. So we couldn't do business, and I was kinda discouraged.
