Well, it was a shorter night, anyway...
There has been a dearth of interesting patients lately, dammit. Many pretty nice ones, though. But no weird diseases or injuries. Not that I would wish weird diseases or injuries on anyone... but I have made my statements on how I hate to be bored, and I'll stand by them...
I got a pretty good sleep yesterday, awaking about 20:00; I leisurely had coffee and my shower, and forgot all about eating anything. I regretted that later, though. I can't remember what I had in the cafeteria, but it was boring even when it was warm, and tasteless cardboard when I tried to take a bit of it later.
Tonight, I need to remember to fast, so that I can get my cholesterol checked. I'll bet that I forget.
I did get some unsettling news last night... I listened to the report for the imaging part of the stress test. The "interesting" part was that my ejection fraction... the amount of blood that actually is moved with each contraction... is 35%. Normal is 50%-75%, so I've been told. What this actually means to me, I'm not sure, but the report from three years ago was 45-50%.
This could explain my incapacity for doing hard work. In fact, this might just replace the "lazy SOB" that has plagued my image for years.
And it might be fair grounds for getting a disability ruling. I'm pretty ambivalent about that, though, and I wish that I wasn't. Ambivalence ne'er won fair lady, or government money, either.
And I've been a good, steady contributor to that aforesaid government for many years. I've had a steady job since high school, if you can count the US Army as being a steady job...
I was really feeling pretty good last night, but when I ran out of patients, I ran out of gas, too. My original idea was that I would stay up and get a lot of stuff done... but I haven't got anything done, really, except put in a load of laundry. Running out of socks and underwear.
So, here it is, almost 11:00, and I think that I'll go to bed. Working eight-hour nights will be different... maybe I won't get so worn out, especially if I don't start until 23:00... hopefully, the bulk of the work will be done by them, and I will walk in to a relaxed atmosphere... However, this morning at 02:00, the ER waiting room was still half-full... it's that time of the year again.
O'yeah, some of you may have noticed... I did some re-arranging (actually, I deleted some features...) of this page, it should load faster, a bunch faster, for you...
Also... I'm getting a crossover in the phone lines again... I can hear the modem dialing in from the other line. And I haven't even been messing with anything! Bummer.
More tomorrow...
I went in at 22:00, and stayed pretty busy until about 03:00, when everything pretty much died and I had time to do the paperwork. Unfortunately, there were three "routine" patients that should have been done but weren't... and i didn't think that it would be proper to call them down at 03:00 to do a routine chest x-ray.
