Ah... a whole new day to play in. Too bad I didn't get a whole night's sleep to get some play energy... went to sleep at 23:00, got up at 03:44. That doesn't work.
But I'm gonna play anyway.
Well, after I work some. The carpet people will be here soon, and then Karen left her car (the Subaru) for me to change the plugs in... I'll go get the oil changed, too, I think. I'm gonna try to get the carpet people to help me move the fridge back into the kitchen, everything else I should be able to do myself.
Then it will be play-time. Or sleep-time, it all depends.
I was planing on building a table for the Linux system, but I decided against it. I'm going to put both of the machines under the desk, although I hate having computers on the floor, from the dust standpoint... that damned gravity thing. But I really don't like them on the upper shelf, where they are now, and I don't want them on the desktop... and I really don't want to spare the room for another table in here... so I'm stuck with the floor.
I really hate making connections while I'm laying on the floor, too. Besides getting dirty and stuff like that, it's an awkward position to work from. And the light is always bad, too. O'well, can't have everything. And I suppose I could rig a light under the desk, instead of trying to find a flashlight every time I want to change a cable...
So, let the fun begin...
14:46...
The guys showed up at 09:30, only an hour late. They unrolled the carpet to cut it, and there was a large defect. They were hoping that it would fall in the place that would be cut out for the cooktop cabinet, but alas! it was just in front of it.
So off they went. A new carpet should be here really soon, according to the owner of the carpet place. It will be expedited, and expedited with great speed. That's what he said.
So I got in Tyler's truck and went to the bank and then to the auto parts store, where I bought plugs for the Subaru. Installed them, then took the Subaru out and got the oil changed... hasn't been done since we got it.
Then to Sears, to get a part for the pressure washer. Of course, the parts place is on the other side of town, but I went to the main store. I browsed the tools for about an hour... I love tools. Power tools. Craftsman power tools, especially.
Didn't buy anything, though. No money, mostly, and besides, I need a garage to put my tools in. First things first, y'know...
So I went by Best Buy with mom's modem. Nope, can't do anything... y'gotta bring in the whole machine. I explained the situation, and the guy shook his stupid head. Gotta bring in the whole machine. Just test the modem, I told him. He said he can't. All they have are customer's machines. I said that was pretty poor for a place that says that they do service. He shrugged his shoulders. Said that a test machine would cost a coupla thousand dollars. Cost of doing business, I said, and speaking of which, you'll not be getting any more of mine... I was not being as soft-spoken as I usually am, either. Some eyebrows were raised. I smiled and put the modem back in the sack that I bought it in and walked out the door.
Then off to the Sears parts depot. They fixed me up in short order, and I had time to browse the rebuilt/reconditioned tools. I really want a good battery-powered driver-drill, and they had them there for about 60% of the retail price. Again, I resisted. But it was harder, since they were cheaper. Unfortunately, I want the most expensive one... I've had enough cheap tools in my lifetime... and it was still $135.00. O'well, sometime soon.
I got back home, famished. I ate the last piece of catfish and more potato salad. I simply love potato salad. It's got just the right amount of good stuff (eggs, onions, pickles) and the right amount of filler (potatoes, of course...) to make it perfect.
So, here I sit, but not for long. I'm going to sleep, Karen will wake me up when she gets home... there was no tape in the VCR, so she can't watch The Young and the Restless when she gets home. Those people (on tYatR) seem to be getting old and sedentary, now that I mention it...
More later, or most likely, tomorrow...
More later...
Well, no carpet.
