The Final revelation: ten hour of sleep is wonderful!

Yep, I finally got some sleep, and yep, I feel like a new man. So much so that I got so much shit done that I'm again completely exhausted, worn to a nub. And I really feel good about it.

I got up about 11:00, and JD got up around 12:30 or so. We went to Lowes and got some plywood for the floor and various other odds and ends, and spent a long time looking for something to hang the pots and pans from when I got the rod in place between the cabinets... pictures some day soon, I know it's hard to tell what I'm talking about.

Anyway, what I wanted were some long... six to eight inches... S-hooks with a 90-degree bend. I've seen exactly what I wanted in a hardware store, somewhere, sometime in my life. However, I've been in a million hardware stores in my life. Like many other people, I love hardware stores...

No go, though.

So, after we got home and unloaded the wood, I went on a quest. I finally found something that might work with a little work on my part... bending and cutting, pretty simple stuff, sometimes. What I found were flower pot hangers... a rod with a hook on one end, but not on the other.

I tried bending the proper hook on the other end, but I soon gave up on it... it sucks not having a machine shop at my disposal... not that I ever did.

So I went looking a coupla other places, again in vain.

Bit the bullet and came back and devised a jig out of two pipe clamps and a 2X4 with JD's help and bent all of the rods. Then I sent JD downstairs to cut them with a hacksaw. I was sure that Karen was not going to like the results, but we pressed on, really having no choice in the matter.

And I was, luckily, wrong. Karen loves the finished product, and the kitchen in general.

JD and I were on a roll, so we cut and edged the rug to its final proportions. Doesn't sound like much of a project, but we had to move quite a bit of furniture... I wanted to get it done tonight so that the trash guys would haul it off tomorrow.

Karen went off to bed around 22:30, and JD and I started yet another project... re-arranging the basement, hauling a cabinet downstairs from the computer room to the empty space (empty space is at a premium in the basement, ever since we started the kitchen project and moved all of the stuff from the garage down there) and moved most of the fishing equipment onto the cabinet. It even looks (halfway) organized.

We've had another cabinet in the living room, a stereo cabinet that her dad had made mostly out of native walnut. It has looked out of place upstairs, but Karen, for sentimental reasons, didn't want to get rid of it. And it is a fine piece of furniture... and a great place to organize my tools in the basement.

So we moved it down there, too.

In the process, we discovered... water. In the basement. Imagine that... we've had about ten inches of rain in the last week, and it wants to be in the basement.

Luckily, nothing has been damaged...yet. It does continue to rain, though.

And I continue to stay up. I really should put this up and go to sleep, I guess.

I've convinced JD to stay a coupla more days, then he and I will travel to Enid to see mom and fix her computer. He will then travel on to Texas, and I'll stay in Enid with mom a few days.

One more night, then back to work.

Being sick really screwed up the first part of this week off, but I've got a lot accomplished today, and will get more done tomorrow, I hope. It might even stop raining....

Thanx for being here!
