A revelation: two hours of sleep don't get it.

I think that the meds I'm on have reversed their side effects... the ones that say they will make you drowsy. Drowsy, hell! I got to sleep at 23:00 last night, got up at 01:00 and I was up until 15:00 this afternoon. Then I got up again at 17:00.

The meds do seem to be accomplishing their main purpose, however... very little of the hives left, and very little itching.

Yesterday afternoon I finally got the plate rack put up... it looks like a professional job, and I'm proud of it. I need to take some pictures...

Mom finally called last night with some good news and some bad news. The good news was that she didn't get blown away Wednesday night... the bad news is that her modem is blown. It was going through a powermaster from Sears, along with the power, and it shouldn't've happened. Luckily, they have a guarantee on the thing, but I'll bet that they won't honor it... there's always a catch somewhere...

JD will be going through there next week, so I'll send a modem down for her and he'll install it.

The big news today is... I'm much closer to getting the network working! At this point, I can FTP to it, but I still can't log in as root for some reason... well, I can when I telenet in.

And I can use MSIE to get to the file that tells me that the Apache server is set up properly... but I can't get to any of the files in my directory with it.

I've still got a lot to learn about Linux... but I'm getting there, slowly but surely.

In fact, I'm getting really enthusiastic about it as an OS in general. I've got the X-11 (GUI) working just fine now, except for that I have to use the mouse left-handed, so, as the basketball player said, I'm amphibious... the reason for the sinistrad configuration is that the machine is on a shelf, and the mouse cord won't reach to the right side of the keyboard. I'm not just being masochistic for fun.

Well, sometimes I am, but not this particular time.

So, due to general tiredness, I'm not doing anything today. I've not had enough rest to run any power tools without endangering myself and others, so I'll refrain from that sort of activity.

Karen was kinda wanting to go see a show, but nothing is on that interests her, so that's out. We have really different tastes in movies, anyway, so I guess it's best.

JD is out with his friend Mike Ford, who is writing a book on the Recent Native American history in Kansas... they're visiting some graveyards and other sites locally, taking pictures. Mike and his brother Ryan are really good people. Ryan was in a car wreck when he was a senior in HS and had a pretty massive head injury, losing the use of one ear and eye. He's in Oregon now, learning how to be a film director.

It seems that one of the kids responsible for the Colorado Carnage has kept a journal for the last year... that I would be interested in reading. He also had blueprints/drawings of the school, indicating which hallways were darkened, etc. It seems that they did a really good job of planning. Along with threat of more violence on Monday... there's the potential that they planted bombs all over the community, or at least they wanted them to believe that.

Weather here is crummy. They changed the forecast on me... it was supposed to be nice starting Sunday, now it won't be until Wednesday... when I go back to work. I'd planned on having the boys roto-till the yard, but it's much too muddy for that now, and JD is going to be leaving next weekend. And it's been really hard to get any work out of Tyler lately at all. I'm getting more worried about him, for various reasons. He seems to find no purpose in living except for music and smoking dope. He does the music here, but not the dope... we had a talk about that a coupla weeks ago. But still... that just means that he's gone more.

He seems to be separating himself from me, and I wonder if that's partially influenced by how well JD and I get along. I just don't know, but I will be finding out.

Karen and I still don't know what we're doing tonight... probably just sitting here, her watching the TV, me on these damnable machines. My brain is way too foggy right now to really absorb and utilize any information, so I'm staying away from the Linux machine. Real soon, now, I'm gonna set up the PPP service and get the windows machines connected to the net through the server. Then I need to find out all about network security... more more more stuff to learn. Fun stuff, but still....

More tomorrow...

Thanx for being here!
