Arrgh! I didn't get as much sleep as planned... the boys and I spent some time trying to keep water out of the basement, so I didn't get to bed until 11:11...

The person who came over to measure for the carpet was a lady who was a birdwatcher, and she told me some interesting stuff about the finches who are living in my street-number box... which we are leaving the light on in, because it's supposed to be getting cold, and there are eggs in there now.

Seems that finches mate for life, and always return to the same nest. Which might explain why they're not quite so scared of us going in and out of the front door this year. The screen door clears their nesting-box by about a quarter-inch...

And speaking of birds, we've got a lot of woodpeckers of two different varieties in the big maple tree out front. They provide much amusement whilst sitting on the deck smoking...

And now, I must get ready for work. I haven't had much in the way of psychological preparation yet... need to get my head there.

More tomorrow...

Thanx for being here!
