OK, back to yesterday... although that seems like a long, long time ago... more on that later on...

Like I said, JD and I went fishing. We had a great time, but he only caught one bass and I only caught about five, none of them more that about three pounds, but all of them putting up a pretty good fight.

The comic relief of the afternoon was when I got one of my lines caught in the prop when we were moving from one location to another... my best rod went overboard, and I made one of those really stupid split-second decisions... I made a grab for it. Amazingly, I got it... but I was halfway out of the boat, and dangerously close to being all of the way out.

But I managed to not only get the rod, but I avoided going overboard, but I got my arm in the water up to my shoulder. It was cold water.

We got home and got cleaned up... and I really can't remember if anything else interesting happened or not. I assume that since I can't remember, nothing did, but I could be wrong.

I stayed up until about 03:00 and got up about 09:00 this morning; piddled around for a while, then the boys got up.

We went out to see MATRIX at the matinee and there were only about six other people there. We all really enjoyed it, I do believe that it lived up to the reviews that I've been reading.

It had been starting to rain a little when we went in, and after the show started we kept hearing thunder... but at least part of it was the show. It was rather confusing that way.

The special effects were wonderful, but I thought that a good part of the acting was pretty poor, but what the hell do I know about acting, anyway.

It was pouring when we got out, and continued pouring for the next several hours. Karen was here when we got home, and we talked a little bit about getting a different cabinet to put the cooktop in, and then JD and I went out to get it. It was still pouring then.

Unfortunately, the cabinet came unassembled, so we spent a coupla hours doing that. While we were gone, Karen had cooked supper and she'd made some wonderful-smelling coffee cake. Damn, sometimes she really impresses me with her cooking!

We got the base assembled, and measured and cut the countertop. Damndamndamn... cut the hole four inches too wide. And we'd measured it three times... the problem was, I'd measured it from the sides for the cut and I should have been measuring it from the center.

Blew $30. I hate it when that happens. Makes me feel stupid. Which is only right... it was a stupid thing to do.

And it's not the first time, and probably won't be the last time, either.

So... I decided to stay up all night and work on the kitchen. Yeah, my last night off and I finally decide to do something. JD has stayed up with me, and we have got a lot done. We got about half of the trim up and it looks pretty good. We did the most difficult part first, so the rest will be easy. We decided to quit hammering about 01:30, having a little consideration for our neighbors.

Next, we worked on the plate rack. Once again, I cut a board too short, and I decided to not cut anything else... so we stained the boards and the dowels. Can't mess that up, huh. Well, we could've, the way things were going, but we didn't.

And now it's damned near 05:00 on Wednesday morning. Still going strong. I have to stay up until 09:00, when the guy is coming over to measure for the carpet... then I'll hit the sack.

About 07:00 I'll go back out to Lowes and get another five-foot cabinet-top. Then I'll come home and measure it six times and cut it and then we'll have everything together.

I happened across some bad news last week, and forgot to mention it here... and old friend and co-worker, Leroy Shelton, was killed in a life-flight helicopter crash in Phoenix last Sunday. Leroy had worked at St. Francis as an x-ray tech, then went to specials procedures, then went to Lawrence to work in their cath lab. He'd gone on to school and become a RN and then moved to Phoenix. I don't know if anyone else was killed in the crash or any other details... I just saw his obituary. He was 37.

I'm now able to telenet into the Linux box through the network, so I'm making some progress there too.

But right now, I'm damned tired. I might not cut that counter-top anyway, but wait until tonight or tomorrow morning...

More tomorrow...

Thanx for being here!
