And it was another *fairly* fun day... didn't go fishing, though. And I got another lousy night's sleep again, too.

Karen got me up about 10:30 and let me drink one (1!) cup of coffee before we went off on adventures.

First stop... the carpet place. We decided to let them do the installation... Karen was careful to point out that it wasn't because I couldn't do it right... of course not, silly!... but it wouldn't cost that much more. OK, I'll go along with that.

Then... on to Lowes. Where we bought trim. And I found a wallet in the drive as we were going in. No money in it, though, but the guy was a lawyer and a member of the NRA. Several credit cards and a drivers license, though. I called him when we got home and left a message on his machine. He came by a half-hour later and insisted on giving me ten bucks for giving him back his wallet.

Karen had gone to spend some time with the grandkids, so JD and I went out to Lowes and got some stuff for the cable connections for the TV and look for some sort of hooks for under the cabinets to hang cups on. And some more trim, because I thought that I was buying eight-foot lengths and half of them were seven-footers.

Karen got home shortly after we got back, and we started talking about what we were going to do about hanging up the pots and pans and she found a picture of what she wanted... two open cabinets on either side of an open place with a bar stretched across it with hangers for pots.

So... we went back out to Lowes again. Yes, that's three times in one day... a bit much even for me.

And we found some 12-inch cabinets with doors for either side of the cooktop, and we also bought a countertop for the cooktop. The cooktop cabinet is kinda like an elongated hexagon, and the top is the same shape. Now the top will be rectangular, which will give us more room and look nicer, since we have it against a wall anyway... it was intended to be an island originally.

As we were loading the truck, one of the cabinet boxes fell off of the shopping cart and landed on the top of my foot. Hurt a lot, and still does, although I haven't taken off my sock and looked at it yet. I know it's not broken, though, because it's no problem walking on it, it just feels like something heavy fell on it...

Waffles and ham and eggs for supper... MMMmmm can you say cloresterol? Can I spell it? Anyway, after supper JD and I straightened out some of the trim 2X4s along the ceiling and he'll paint them later tonight after the goop that he filled the nail-holes in with dries. Meanwhile, I hung up the stem ware holders that we got at Pier One yesterday. They look really nice.

Tomorrow I'll start building the dish rack and replace the cooktop countertop and hang the cabinets and then we'll put up the trim... and then we'll be almost done with the kitchen. After the carpet gets laid, of course. I still have to do something about the cabinets... nailing them down to the floor and the wall.

And... I found out why I can't get the damned network to work on the linux box... the netgear card that I bought has to use the driver that the netgear people supply, not the one that RedHat says works with the card. Seems that they switched chips in the middle of production, and the new one doesn't work but the old one does. Well, OK... but I can't read the disk that they sent me. So I'm switching that card for the one in JD's machine, and everything should be hunky-dory.

Yeah, sure.

A pretty damned busy day, and I'm pretty tired, so I think that I'll put this up and go to bed. Busy day tomorrow, too... but I'll go fishing one more time before I go back to work next week...

Thanx for being here!
