Finally... a fun day!

Tyler and I went fishing... we left shortly after noon and came home, tired and cold, about 16:30 or so. We didn't catch a lot of fish, but we caught some pretty nice ones.

I got up about 08:00 after a restless nights' sleep, fraught with weird dreams... not like the night before, though, but I couldn't remember them, just that they were weird. I knew that I was dreaming, so I didn't really pay attention.

So I had a pot or two of coffee and got dressed and went out and bought a trolling battery, came home and proceeded to wake Tyler up. He'd come home about 00:30 last night, having been up all night the night before and all day, but it still wasn't too hard to get him up.

We started off with jigs and slow lizards, and I caught one. I was thinking that the fish would be in the deep end, still pretty much in their winter mode, but they weren't...

We found them is the shallow end, preparing to spawn. And we caught them on spinnerbaits. The first one that I caught on a spinner had followed the bait almost up to the boat, and Tyler was watching the spinner when the bass hit it, it surprised the hell out of him. It was really pretty comical... the fish was about three feet from Tyler when it hit, I think it even splashed him when it came out of the water.

It was cool when we went out, about 50F, but it was supposed to clear off and get up to 70F. It didn't do either while we were out, and there was a pretty stiff westerly wind, too, and I'd forgotten the anchor, so I had to fish with one hand on the trolling motor most of the time.

And I also noticed that the boat was sitting pretty low in the water, and we found out why when we decided to go in... the hull was full of water, or half-full, anyway. There is a drain-hole in the back, and someone had taken the screw out that I use for a plug.

Half-full of water, that damned thing is heavy. Really heavy.

So, we decided to get it out with the winch... but the winch didn't work. We fiddle-farted around with that for a while, then decided the hell with it and unloaded the gear from the boat and grunted and groaned and got it turned over so that it would drain. It took it about 15 minutes to drain, and then it wasn't any problem at all for us to lift it onto the trailer.

Shortly after we got home, Karen came home from work. She is finally feeling somewhat better after starting a second round of antibiotics. We talked a little bit about going to KC or something fun, but we decided that we would probably just crash in the hotel and not get our money's worth out of it. We did that a year or so ago... we were both tired and partly sick, went up to KC, got a suite and... crashed for twelve hours. Then drove back to Topeka.

But nobody felt like cooking, so Karen and I went out to Furrs, the cafeteria. We haven't been there for a year or two, and it hasn't changed a bit. Good, plain food and not too expensive... but really crowded.

From there, we went to Kohls, where I planned on buying a new pair of Asics shoes for work. They had a few pairs in my size, but nothing that really felt good. And the style that I wanted they didn't have in my size. O'well, I'll just have to go somewhere else, I guess. Or try something different, but I hate to waste money on something different that might not really be good for my feet...

From there, we went to Pier One, just to look around. Yeah, I should've known better. We got out of there only $60 poorer than we went in.

So... it was a really nice day, altogether. I got to spend some time talking to Tyler, which was really nice. It's really hard to figger out what that kid's thinking usually... he's so tied up in this music thing that I don't think that he thinks about anything else unless he's fishing, and even then...

More tomorrow...
