Much better!
I had a decent day's sleep yesterday, still not as much as I wanted, but much better. And everything went better at work, too, although that's just an accident and not a consequence.
The lady I talked about yesterday with the aneurysm is doing just great! I was really surprised to see that she was among the living, and she's sitting up and talking and making sense. Sometimes things do work out.
One more twelve-hour shift to go. And... I think that we are going to have some nice weather. And... I think that I'm going to go fishing. It's been a long, long time.
I've got to get my priorities right this year. Going fishing only twice a year isn't being the Doug that I want to be. Once a week is more like it.
Had a fellow come in in the evening, obviously intoxicated, claiming that he was having a heart attack. He wasn't, and he decided to leave after having some tests done, apparently AMA (against Medical Advice). One of the tests that he had done was a blood alcohol... 243 or something like that.
Well, he comes back in a coupla hours later... with a BA of 450 or so. I guess he wanted us to have a good reason for keeping him off of the streets or something. He was admitted... in 4-point leathers.
But I guess that you can't expect people to be reasonable when their blood alcohol is damned near 0.5%... that would kill most normal people.
Actually, most people aren't very reasonable even stone cold sober...
Without cynicism, I would be nothing.
A cop came in a little later on a different case. He claimed that the world, or at least Topeka, was exceptionally stupid tonight. The case that he came in on involved a guy who had crashed his car into a light pole at a pretty high speed then walked away. The patient was, by the time he arrived at the hospital, relatively sober three hours after the accident, and the cops couldn't get a BA on him because they didn't witness him operating a vehicle under the influence, circumstantial evidence notwithstanding... they had his car with blood all over the dash, and he had a lacerated face, but legally... they could do nothing.
Sometimes laws are really stupid.
All things considered, last night was not bad, especially compared with Sunday night. I'm tired, but mostly from just being at work for twelve hours, not from running. Legs and feet are still sore, but not really bad. One more night, then a week of healing.
I really hope that I get lucky tonight too. Hell, I deserve it. And so do the people that I work with.
